Again, probably been discussed at length, (what hasn't here?) but I am starting again on these damn ABX and I miss my wine or beer with my dinner.

It is not so much the alcohol, but the taste I miss. Of course nothing can replace a great wine, so I've tossed that one out. But if you put lime into the Amber O'douls, it's not tooooo bad.

The question is:
Does non-alcoholic beer have the yeast that the regular beer has? I would THINK so, but I am not sure.

Anyone?
Thanks, Trails

Once in a great while I have a non-alcoholic beer called "Kaliber." It is made by Guiness and is more like an ale. Seems to agree with my system just fine.

But as I said, only once in a great while.
Again, everyone with Lyme reacts differently to different things - even treatments!

Arrrgggghhh!

So non-alcoholic beer DOES has the yeast?? I am still not clear on that.

There once was a beer brewer on this site....maybe they could answer this question?

Thanks,
Trails

Yes. It has yeast.

It just has a very low ethl alcohol content (low, but it is there)--below 0.5%. Minors cannot buy 'non alcoholic' beverages and pilots cannot drink them before flight.

I just wanted to pop in here and say that since non-alcoholic beer (and other drinks) still do have a small amount of alcohol, one should not drink them while on Flagyl. My brother had his appendix out a few years ago after it burst. While in the hospital he was on IV Flagyl, he was in the hospital for New Year's and his friend gave him a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne to celebrate the New Year. Well, he drank a tiny bit and was violently ill for a few days afterwards - not a happy few days for him. So, just a word of warning!

Not all people would react this way, I think, but just know that it can happen.

Peace and healing,
Annie

Thanks---I don't doubt NOT a drop while on Flagyl---that stuff is VERY intense, IV or oral.

I didn't do any alcohol in 2001 during treatment, but I was a different person then. I was smoking cigs, which I quit two years ago and smoking was always a help to pain and frustration. I truly believe it got me through that first round of treatment. I wouldnt smoke for money now though. It is a complicated issue---pain relief and "illicit" drug use.

Don't rag on me here. I don't need lectures about healthy lifestyles,,,,,I am trying my best to get along with the "dont drink dont smoke,...what do ya do?" (adam ant)

Anyhow---I tried ginger brew in May during treatment, but that was too much sugar for me.

Smoking pot or vaporizing is a possibility, but not the same as just one mellow drink with dinner. (as I've said in the past---I'd rather SMOKE grass than sit in it)

I hate to eat the wonderfully spicy organic food that takes me a few hours a day to cook up or a great roasted green chile dinner without a beer or some wine---how could you drink WATER with that?

Maybe I'll do Kefir.....without the sugar...I hate the taste, but it is better than water after a spice rush.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for letting me blab.

And again, if you want to pick on me for my chioces, DON'T.
Thanks,
Trails [tsk]

Trails,

I doubt you would get a lecture from anyone here. I think most of us believe cannabis should be legal for medical conditions.

I had mine (grn chiles) shipped at the peak of the season from a local company that grew in the feilds RIGHT NEXT TO MY HOUSE!! It wasnt too expensive---you should try them! And we had a wonderful time roasting them here and doing some deeeep breathing.

Yes, bring the beer!

Also, I have been on a few posts here where people have been very mean to others whose choices were "different" than most. And a while back when someone posted about cannabis use MOST of the people had nothing but negative comments. I was pretty shocked, I must say.

However, promoting cannabis on this site is NOT my intention. Just to talk about where I am at is.

So thanks for listening,
Trails [Wink]

Hoorah, I'm up for a party....
Let's face it everyone has to find their own way of coping and dealing with stuff. We are all grown ups ( well, I hope not too grown up....). I have never had a problem with the odd glass of wine or two but I am seriously not looking forward to the time of complete abstinance while I have to take Flagyl.....

At times when I've had bad pain a gin & tonic has been a blessed relief!

And I'm afraid that I have to admit to still smoking a couple of cigs a day... something that I know I MUST give up.

No lecture's please!
I do however, eat a completely organic diet of good home cooked food- absolutely no processed junk.

Trails; you could always try making some hash brownies? Of course, as said before I'm not advocating use [Wink]

Never did like the eating of it. Makes the whole body slow down and I feel like I may never wake up.

opposite effect when inhaled for me.

Never been an appetite enhancer--was introduced to it while living in AFRICA where the munchies DO NOT exist, just hunger and hopefully some rice and beans that day. Ever since, I get NOT hungry---funny huh?

Have you read or seen about Melissa Ethridge vaporizing during chemo? So glad she's such an honest gal! -

A website that helped me kick the cig habit was WHYQUIT.com or something like that. "NOT ONE PUFF." It was very important to see nicotene as the drug that it is. But I am not a nic nazi now...smoke em if you got em, but just not during my dinner please! [Big Grin]

You'll quit, you will find the right time and you will be strong enough to do it.
