My 7 year old son has been diagnosed with lyme. We never saw a tick, multiple bullseyes just showed up after flu like symptoms. Looking back on things he's always had problems going to the bathroom because of constipation. This started when he was about 3. When he was 4 he had to be hospatilized for vomiting, they couldnt get it to stop. They never figured out what it was. About 1 week later he had a stiff neck and would scream in pain. This lasted for a day. He since then he cries easley and gets sick a lot. Then recently he got sick and multiple bullseyes showed up. He was tested 1 day after the rash showed up and his test came back positive for the antibodies. Well equivical 1.05. Hes been on amoxicillin for about 3 weeks now and we were able to get our primary care dr to keep him on antibotics because it seemed like he was getting worse about 5 days ago. In reading I'm thinking it is the herx everyone is talking about. He prescribed zithromax. We will follow up next week. Is their anyway to tell how long he has had it ? Their are so many symptoms that I cant tell if he has had it a wile or if I'm reading into his whole medical history thinking its all lyme.

I have difficulty reading a solid block of print, so I am splitting up your post - for me and for others with this same problem. Believe it or not, it is Lyme related.
My comments at the end.

I am so sorry your little guy and you are going through all this!

A good physician who is experienced in treating Lyme disease will always rule out other diseases and problems, and I do hope your doctor will do that. I hope you can get the help of a doctor who is knowledgeable and experienced in treating Lyme disease.

In all the years I have been dealing with people who have Lyme disease, the one question that takes up so much time and worry and energy is "When did this happen and how long have I had it???"

Sometimes it is best to just let that go because you may never have the answer and knowing isn't really going to help the situation much.

Just knowing that you have the correct diagnosis and that there are ways of treatment is the best. Being positive and determined is the best attitude.

I hope some Missouri people will sign on here with some good ideas for you.

Sending good thoughts and wishes,
Ann -OH

I am so so sorry to hear about your 7 yr old son. I have a 7 yr old boy too -it is heartbreaking for me to think that he would have to suffer what I am suffering!

To answer your question, determining when he got lyme is just like putting pieces of a puzzle together -just as you are doing - I think you've got it! I did the same myself and just put 2 and 2 together and narrowed down that I have had it since end of Nov 2003 when my dog was infected by a deer tick that came off a dead deer carcas that a hunter had shot on our "private" hiking trails.

Daisy our dog got really sick that following January and my first symptoms were in Feb and March although I had no clue what they were. I remember asking our veterinarian if I personally should be worried about lyme and she was just like "No-not at all!" Yeah right!

My prayers are with you -good luck with your precious son.

Oh yeah I meant to say -regarding his whole medical history -there is a good bet that it has all been lyme.

Unfortunately, no way to really know how long he has had it other than by symptoms. Good luck.
