Recently my LLMD prescribed plenty of combos to try since, for the last 10 months, I've been taking single abx. at low doses - not surprisingly, no improvement (I've had LD for 10 years - should probably have tried more aggressive treatment but Dr. C. worries about herxing.

B's Guidelines recommend combining Flagyl with "benzathine penicillin" - is there another name for that?

Dr. B. also suggests adding one or two other abx. to Flagyl but does not specify which. Does anybody know which two he is referring to?

I was thinking of combining Flagyl with Bactrim (my doc's recommendation) with something else.

These meds are relatively cheap and I don't have insurance right now (hence holding off on the IV route).

My doc wanted me to start with a Vantin/Tetracycline combo but Vantin costs $176 for 30 pills - at 4 pills a day that's only 8 days worth! I can't afford it. And I haven't read anything about Vantin in Dr. B's Guidelines for treating chronic Lyme.

Bottom Line question here: what combos have helped other chronic lymies? I'm ready to hit it hard! (Can't afford Mepron yet - have applied for Rx assistance but it will take some time.)

Would really like to start with Flagyl + Biaxin plus another, but feedback would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance. All of you here at Lymenet have been a godsend.

Benzathine penicillin is slowly absorbed into the circulation, after intramuscular injection, and hydrolysed to benzylpenicillin in vivo. It is the drug-of-choice when prolonged low concentrations of benzylpenicillin are required and appropriate, allowing prolonged antibiotic action over 2-4 weeks after a single IM dose. It is marketed by Wyeth under the trade name Bicillin.

Combos are any two at a time depends what works in you. Ive done alot of biaxin+ flagyl 0r flagyl+doxy or spectracef ,omnicef, ceftin, amoxicilliin, cedax, dynabac, etc.

Biaxin, flagyl, and bactrim may be a good possibility. You'll probably herx from here to Mars and back!

Check this link for drug interactions:

And of course, check with Dr C before taking the plunge.

Lymebites
I sent sent you a private message.

Forgot to tell you what I am on now and it is working well.

Am taking Doxy, Septra DM ,tinidazole(in stead of flagal, which stopped working for me) and plaquenil.I take one week on and then one week off because it lets my stomache and immune systom to heal. But it's taken three years of constant ABX to be able to take a week off.

I follow my week on with three days with diflucan
