Hi everyone. I got bitten by a tick about 5 weeks ago. The red area is almost gone, with only a small itch left. I have researched and I do believe that I contracted Lyme. It was only about a nickle in size, but it did make a bullseye.
I went to 2 different dr.s and they both mentioned RMSF (not) and perscribed Tetracylcline. I am on about my 8-9th day.
The biggest problem that I am having is extreme nausea. Is this a normal thing for Lyme? Is there anything I can do to help it? I thought maybe it was the antibiotics, but it started about a week after I was bitten. I did not start the antibiotics until a little over a week ago.
I will try to post a picture of my bite. I took them after I realized the doctors did not seem to know what they were looking at. (unless I am wrong, lol )

Common side effects for Tetracycline include: epigastric distress, nausea, diarrhea, candidal superinfection, rash, photosensitivity. But Lyme can cause nausea too.
When I have nausea I breathe deep, slow breaths, drink ginger tea, a glass of pure water. Sometimes an antacid helps me, a hot water bottle.
Hope you find something that works for you.

Hubby's main symptoms were nausea/vomiting/dry heaves and a Parkinsonian tremor for the 1st 1.5 years when he did not know he had Lyme, babesia, bartonella..... Doctors couldn't figure it out and their favorite diagnosis was anxiety/depression.
4.5 years since he got sick G.I. and neuro problems continue to be main symptoms.
3 endoscopies and 1 colonoscopy later -- chronic gastritis of unknown etiology was main finding.
Hubby has tried many many things for the nausea and nothing much helps. He has nausea about 50 % of the time -- for 4.5 years now.
Start reading the newbies link at the top of the medical forum for lots of info -- especially Dr B's 2005 guidelines.
Be sure to take acidophilus to prevent candida overgrowth and diarrhea. You don't need more G.I. problems!
Ask all the questions you need to -- there are lots of helpful people here.

the thing that got rid of most of my nausea from my ABX is to take prilosec(presciption strength every mornig)
Yeap probiotics are real important to replace the good flora your ABX is killing off.Make sure to seperate two hours before or two hours after ABX.I get the refigerated ones and the ones with multi-strains.
Hope you feel better soon. The newbie links mentioned earlier are a good idea.
take care dana

My Lyme doctor told me to take the tetracycline on empty stomach but eat 20 minutes later to help prevent the nausea. Don't eat/drink dairy...even throughout the day. That seems to exascerbate the nausea.
Take probotics & acidopholis to prevent diarreha and yeast infections.

Thanks for all of your helpful input. I have been reading around on the site and it has been very informative.
I did not get any test done. We were just hit by Hurricane Rita and are still in the aftermath. I would have gone to the health department, but it is not open. lol They just prescribed the antibiotics.
I am going to start the probotics too. I think I may be having effects on my throat from the antibiotics.
Since I took the antibiotics early, will it take care of everything? That is one question that I can't seem to get a clear idea on.
Thanks a bunch, angel

If I could do it over again, I'd have insisted on much more aggressive abx after the EM.
I had a bulls eye rash five years ago, received limited treatment....15 days doxy, felt fine for a long time. This spring, it turned on me, and all the sudden I have major nuero lyme.
Find an LLMD and make sure your treatment is sufficient! Test and retest after your treatment and monitor/record your symptoms. I saw my doctor several times over the years for odd things that came and went -
hand pain, bloating, sugar intolerance, hand vibration sensations, heart palps, moslty things that resolved....looking back I think it was all lyme related and it took a stressful event to bring it out.
Good Luck to you, self educate and visit often, I'd be lost without this site.

I know when I take Doxycycline (like right now for Brochitis), if I take it on an empty stomach or w/ not enuf water, I get really bad nausea and throw up
Are you taking yours w/ food? I think these abx are in the same family (but I could be wrong)! Mine says on the bottle - ok to take w/ food!
If yours does and you haven't been - you might try that!
Also, the probiotics are important but, don't take them near the abx!
I hope you did take pics of your rash! As soon as you can, you should contact an LLMD and/or the health department to make sure you are receiving adequate treatment!
I'm a late stage - chronic, will probably never be well again Lymie and I don't want you to enter this less than wonderful group!!!
It is really important to receive treatment for "long enough" and w/ the proper dosage! Sorry though I can't answer w/out a doubt, your question about being treated early!
I only hope that if you are treated correctly you really will be well!
You can holla at me if you wish since we are "homeys"!!!! But it would even be way ok to holla if we weren't!!!

Please get enough abx for a minimum of 6 wks!!!
The nausea could be from babesia.

Angel, I remember one of first symptoms being nausea also. Please keep a daily log of any and all symptoms. The only thing I could do to calm nausea was eat small meals or crackers all day long. Don't dismiss anything odd. Including flu-like symptoms.
As long as I had something in my stomach, it wasn't so bad.
I hope you are able to nip this in the bud NOW.
Take care, Pam

Did you get tested for co-infections?See newbie links here for that.
I am sorry about the nausea.I have that too.Prilosec -prescrition strength works the best for me.
Someone else said space the acidophilus two hours a part. This is very important And try and get the multi strain kind that needs to be refridgerated.I like "all fora" by new chapter.I get it at vitaminshop.com.

Sorry to be double posting (trying to post my pic)
I emailed the Ll dr. that I got off of this site and she already emailed me back. She said that she could see me at 11 on Monday. She said that it sounded like "classic Lyme" to her. I am going.
