my GP just switched me from Avelox to Biaxin 500mg 2x A day for a sinus infection.

I have been on this abx about 5 years ago.

I just took my first dose and I have been experiencing Heart Palps. I do have dysautonomia, but am wondering if anyone else has experienced a racing heart upon taking this med?

BTW: It is the generic form, I am not sure I took generic years ago.

Thank guys if you can offer soem advise. I am having quite a time finding an abx I can tolerate for my sinuses. [confused]

Can't help with heart palps, I'm sure others can. How about erythromyicin for the sinus ?

I already have palpitations, tacycardia and arrythmias, many of us do. I was somewhat surprised to learn that there are some serious dangers invloved with Biaxin.

Antibiotics
Clarithromycin (Biaxin) or Erythromycin
Digoxin (Lanoxin)

Theophylline or Pimozide

Cardiac arrhythmia

Potentially fatal levels of theophylline; rapid heart rate

It is really unfortunate because Biaxin seems to work really well, but for me the dangers of Biaxin far out weigh the benefits. Many of us already have very irritable hearts, adding Biaxin is just somwhere I won't go, unless they hospitalize me first.

Do some research, there are some very clear warning regarding Biaxin and the heart. Then talk to your doctor.

Similar problem at our house. Levaquin causes sezures, Biaxin caused paralysis. Daughter is now on Augmentin for sinus infection. Just hope it's not resistant to Augmentin.

Thanks guys : You'll LOVE this one: I called my GP to tell her about my heart palps...the nurse I spoke with was irritated anyway b/c this is my second call in 2 days ( how dare I!)

Anyway, she calls me back and tell s me that my GP said " She is going to have to expect side effects with any abx" I said you mean this is not serious???? and the nurse in an annoying tone replied "NO"

Now I dont know what to do b/c Augmentin is not working for me anymore...... I am just so sick of these Stupid dr's!!! [Mad]

When I was on Biaxin my resting heart rate was 110 bpm. It was scary. It came down immediately after getting off of it.

Feel better,

I was just gonna ask if anyone had bad experience with Biaxin. I was on Biaxin XL 500 mg, 2 with a meal per day on 10/20. Went to hospital with chest pains 11/3. After "observation" and stress test, my Internist Not my LLMD) said it was the Biaxin causing GERD. Put me on Prilosec, withdrew Biaxin, sent me home next day.
