well today i saw id doc who was labeling me with chronic fatigue, but now he seems to be going back to lyme, but first since i told him i wake up frequentlyu throught the night to urinate he wants me to see a uroligist before he starts me on abx, since i told him i had no results with amox will try other abx. thankfully he recagnizes frequent urination as a symptom of lyme!! also says he does not want to diagnoses with chronic fatigue because he knows it will hurt my future treatment ...and neg. label my problem!! im happy with todays visit but im tired of seeing other specialists!!....... Has anyone seen an uroligist before and what should i expect with the visit? Never seen one before but i dont think i like the way it sounds! LENNy^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If it was me I'd go to the urologist even if I didn't think it would be pleasant. Not everything is lyme. I recently had a nonlyme related health crisis which only exacerbated my lyme.
Good luck, Sven

Lenny,
All in all, I'd rather visit Tahiti than the urologist.
However, it's something grown men have to accept for the sake of their health and something one can get used to. My guess is that he (VERY few urologists are women) will interview and examine you. That generally entails manual and visual examination of the penis and testes and a digital rectal exam to check for inflamation and/or enlargement of the prostate gland, which can impede urination and thus contribute to frequency and sense of urgency. Bear in mind that enlargement of the prostate and frequent urination is a symptom a number of the men here have reported.
After all that, you will probably be prescribed a course of antibiotics, perhaps Cipro. It seems unlkely to me that further tests, other than perhaps urinalysis will be ordered.
This may not have been something you want to read but you need to be logical and pragmatic about this. You'll live through it.

A uroligist (I assume you are a male) will insert his finger into the rectum to feel the prostrate gland to check if it is swollen.
When the prostrate swells it will make it diffcult to pee and to empty the bladder...
This swelling can be reduced by various herbs which may or may not work. Saw Palmetto is used most often..
Get a PSI blood test. Checks for prostrate problems like cancer. Not 100% accurate but, better than nothing...
Cures: Roto Rooter job... 1. If the swelling is not cancerous and can be fixed with surgery. I had this done..
This could make you sterile, it did for me... They reroute the sperm tubes to dump into bladder, otherwise you will "leak" sperm.
Very painful recovery (one month). Can't ride in a car during that time...
They put a tube in the penis to drain off blood and pee during recovery. When they yank it out, its like getting hit by a lighting bolt...
2. Worst case: Cancer. they will try radiation first. They plant an radioactive seed in the prostrate. Some try chemo, doesn't seem to work as well as the seed.
If that doesn't work then they will remove the prostrate if the cancer isn't too far gone.
Some have to wear a bag to collect pee for the rest of their lives.... Depends on many factors....
Was my operation sucessful? Well yes and no... In general it makes peeing better than before. But nowhere near when I was a kid... I still have problems peeing.
But much better than not being able to pee (increbility painful).
Sex: erections are rare and difficult now. Viagra is worthless, just gives me a headache..
I have noticed that certain foods will cause the prostrate to swell and make peeing difficult. Diet products (aspertame) do this and so do food preservatives. I avoid chinese food unless they gurantee to be preservative free ( MSG).
I have a strong feeling that I didnot need the operation because at the time I was drinking a lot of Diet sodas... Also, since I have started cooking with coconut oil, peeing seems to be much easier....
Good Luck Tj
