Mine come and go, usually according to how aggressively I'm being treated.

My son has autism and the tourette symptoms came out after treatment for lyme was started. Very OCD and he has a facial tic now too. It is very upsetting to see these things manifest as the autism is a huge dx to begin with. To see these other behaviors come out just breaks my heart. The LLMD told me these are related to the lyme. We are just at the beginning of treatment with him.

Lenny,
The symptoms you describe sound like tics.
Researchers have found that there is a part of the brain that controls this, the tics and also Tourette's Syndrome. Lyme is a neurological disease, so it may be affecting that part of the brain.

Although a neurologist might have some answers for you regarding treatment, you may be able to do some supportive measures on your own.

Fish oil capsules will strengthen the integrity of the cell membranes, and support mental health.
The pharmaceutical quality oil is more expensive, but solves two of fish oil's problems, mercury and fishy flavor.
I use Carlson's lemon flavored fish oil; it has a light lemon flavor.

Take one teaspoon per 50 pounds of bodyweight, daily.

Magnesium supplements are important to try to alleviate some of the damage from the Lyme bacteria.
Magnesium glycinate is one of the more easily absorbed.

Buy a bag of raw almonds, ($6 to $8 at the grocery store) and eat several ounces per day. Almonds are high in magnesium, and make a great snack.

Are you seeing an LLMD? This is something you can ask him about. If the problem with the tics becomes too bothersome (and I would guess that it might be embarrassing socially) make an appointment with a neurologist. I believe there may be some medications to help control the tics.

Hope this helps.
Carol
