Well After almost 2.5 years of suffering and going from doctor to doctor I finally know what the hell is going on with my skin.

I took my kids to see their llmd on Monday (the awesome Dr. J in conn.) and showed him a lesion on my heel that just wont mend. Itches and weeps and sloughs off skin.

He took one look and said "can I swab that for a culture?" I said PLEASE DO!!! so he did.

today I got a call from him....strep pyogenes! I have been thru the mill with incompetent doctors who took umteen plug biopsies (derms included) and NOT ONE SWABBED anything to see if it grew strep!!!

I even saw an infectious disease specialist and he never even tried.....he told me to go to a derm as it looked like eczema!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My leg was weeping at the time!!!!!

Well Dr. J knew what it was right away. Low and behold his suspicion was right and I was positive 4+!

I have been on an arsenal of meds for the last year and they would abate the itching and lesions but never erradicate them.

I was NEVER put on augmentin xr and that is the ONLY thing that will erradicate it from my system.

So this is good news altho it infuriates me that It took this long and a boat load of no good doctors to get here.

STREP!!! thats pretty basic stuff that all those ducks should have picked up!!!!!

THe thing that worries me is (my sister is a nurse ) she said that having strep that long....the toxins can attack the kidneys causing failure :-[

I DID NOT NEED TO HEAR THAT RIGHT NOW!!! i was basking in my glory of FINALLY having an answer.

I have no signs of kidney problems however so Im going to concentrate on getting well.

I do/did have lyme too and that may be why it took hold and flourished.

Just wanteded to update yall in the hopes that if anyone has had the same symptoms it may help.

symptoms:
Itchy red bumps that ITCH BEYOND COMPARE! Weeping lesions that itch itch itch. Very symetrical bumps. Large weeping itchy patches.

ciao,
pattiecake

pattiecake,
do some of you rash areas run in a line?(linear) I also have BAD ITCHY rashes that come and go. I have one now. I'm going to see a derm tomorrow. It's little red bumps, they break out at night but don't go away during the day, then they form scaly patches. I have them on abdomen, sides, arms, legs, chest.

Dr. J is wonderful. He just helped us with my older son. We are so blessed to have him for our daughter with Lyme.

Pattiecake-

I am really glad for you that you can get this rash cleared up. So frustrating to have docs, specialists! miss something obvious.

Are you still getting to do the bicillan?

Reminds me of when Dr. J first started treating my son for lyme. We mentioned to Dr J. that my son gets bloody noses daily. Sometimes several per day. This was going on for years. This was all pre-lyme.

Other doctors said it was from dry heat or "some kids just have that" and that it would have to eventually be cortorized.

Dr. J took one look inside his nose. He said, quite matter of factly, "He has a little cut in there thats not healing. Put some triple abx ointment on it until it heals."

Bloody noses stopped like magic.

One thing I agree with, lyme doc's not only know their biz about lyme, but medicine in general. Our LLMD is absolutely revered in the little town he practices in.
