As a result of independent medical studies like this one, the inventor of the device, Dr. Mary Staggs has revised her approach, and now sells the ionic foot spa as a bio-stimulation device, i.e. a device that stimulates the body's organs so they can more efficiently carry on their detoxification role, as explained on her site:
It doesn't mean that ionic footh baths have no health benefits. They do, as most users will attest. They just don't seem to detoxify through the feet, as were led to believe.
If the "2000 pores" that we have under our feet cannot release substantial amounts of toxins in water, one may wonder if they do in detox foot patches...

I wouldn't put too much credence in what he has to say. I'd much prefer hearing from a user of the detox foot baths than this guy.

Just putting my 2 cents in. I've had many ionic foot cleanse treatments done and I have seen the results of the array in the water without anything else versus with the feet in.
If any one has had this done they could tell you all the junk that is in the water at the end of the 30 mn. It's amazing what you will see.
Not trying to be defiant but thought I would let you know my experience with this. If you do a search on this subject you will find where I posted about when I colored my hair and the smell that came from my feet that day(during the cleanse). Of all the other times I had this done I had not had the odor. Made a believer out of me!
Hope all is well!

How do you find places that offer these ionic foot baths?
I've really had good success with the foot pads and would be interested in exploring the baths.
Thanks!

If you feel better after one of these, great.
But beware of the way before-and-after pictures are used to promote these baths: it's a joke. All the junk in the water (that people claim are "TOXINS") will be there after 30 minutes if your feet are in the bath, or if they aren't. I know because I've tried this myself, and the water looked the same.
The quackwatch guy is a clown, but Dr. Staggs doesn't acknowledge that the "colour change" in the water takes place with or without feet immersed, and it may not have anything to do with any health benefits.

You're right. I've read some of his articles, like the one about aspartame being harmless and originally wondered if I should use him as a reference about the ionic foor bath...
However, even the inventor of the machine now claims that the color change doesn't mean anything AND that the spa itself doesn't detoxify (but stimulates organs so that they can carry out their natural detoxification role).
For the inventor of the machine to make such a statement, there must be some truth.
For those interested in the other health benefits of the ionic foot spa, check the Viatek Bio-energy Detox Spa. It costs a fraction of other foot spas and can be purchased on the net between $350 and $500.
