Hi everyone,

My LLMD just prescribed 100 mg minocycline bid. Is this considered a standard dose or a double dose?

I'll also be on 100 mg doxycycline bid, which I'm pretty sure is a standard dose.

So will I be on the equivalent of 2 or 3 abx?

Thanks!
Bec

Dosage of mino for Lyme is often 100 mg bid.

Dosage of doxy for Lyme is often 300-600 mg/day.

Both are tetracycline type antibiotics.

I have never heard of them being used together.

be carefull when you start the mino. I was on 100 x2 a day at 100gm also - Many have said that mino get good penitration but it also really hits the bugs. I had to stop - too much for me.

You can take as much as 300 mg of mino a day, but I was never able to do so. I also wouldn't take that much along with doxy too. Yikes!

i'm not actually new to this forum, just haven't posted in years but your post caught my eye -

the max dose for mino, according to the mfr is 400mg per day. in late 2002 & 2003, i was taking between 400 and 600mg/day. i would not advise anyone to do this unless you're exceptionally hearty and are able to push thru the side effects that are incredibly strong. (also, now illegal for pharms to fill rx written for more than 400mg/day, which is mfr max daily rec.)

at 400mg, it didn't kill nearly the number of spriochetes as the number of cysts it formed. the major event was when i took too much flagyl, as rx'd by my then llmd, who didn't offer a titering-up program. [bonk] i can't even begin to describe the 6+ weeks that followed. [Eek!]

of course, i've been left with a bit more brain damage, over and above what i already had and it took about 18 mos. for all the die-off to be swept out, however, my igenex now reads equiv. on only 3 bands of igg and i'm taking 250mg. zith and 100mg mino daily as maintenance. a few times a year, i'll take 3 or 4 days flagyl, 750mg, but it took me over 3 mos. to titer up to it after the tragedy in 02/03. as horrible as it was, the improvement in my condition is nothing short of miraculous. (contrary to my screen name, i'm swimming pretty darned good these days!)There is hope!

forgive my lengthy note, i just wanted to stress that if you should incorporate flagyl while on a mino protocol, please, be very, very careful. there was no reason for me to be injured so badly while taking these drugs and i cringe at the prospect of anyone else having a similar experience.
