I am just wondering if there are any test out there that i can get that tells if lyme is still in your system? I am going back to my primary care doctor and see if she will help me out with this. She seems to think that 2 weeks of doxcy cures this as long as it is treated right away.
I was reading something about getting re tested any suggestions as i am pregnant and want to get treated if necessary but all of the doctor that i saw say that i am cured. Is this cureable? Or can this stay in the system without any systoms.
Any help would be great.....Thanks

There are no 100% accurate tests. IGenex is probably the best.

It is likely never cured in that it doesn't leave the body but more likely put into remission like herpes and other viruses can be for long periods of time in the body without symptoms.

Dr. B has lots of info. on pregnancy in lyme...try reading this:
Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines for lyme and TBD's...9/05 page 21

Here's some excerpts from one of Dr. B's presentations given at Hope To Heal Lyme Conference in Va. on April 2005.

* Any stage of active Lyme can affect the fetus at any stage of pregnancy

* If the mother was kept on appropriate antibiotic therapy for the duration of the pregnancy, then there were NO ADVERSE FETAL OUTCOMES RELATED TO LYME

* No adverse effects to the baby from the antibiotic therapy

* Breast milk can carry the Lyme spirochete, and possibly be infectious to the baby

* Test baby's urine monthly for Lyme by PCR

* No breast feeding

* Lyme literate pediatrician to follow baby's development

* At delivery, test cord blood and placenta for Lyme and Bartonella by PCR (and culture if available)

If you would like a copy of his entire Powerpoint presentation, just email me or private message me so I can send...

Good luck!!

Gail
