What do you think about this symptom. Is it going away with abx treatment or it stays forever? If it resolves with treatment how much time it takes?
Is it a symptom of an active disease or just a reminder?

For me and some others I know, it goes away - it is transient - comes and goes.. and likely due to some form of transient neuropathy.
As to does it go away for ever at some point, I can't say as I am still quite sick. It is however not as freqeunt as before, which to me would seem to indicate that it does have the potential to go away permanently. HOWEVER, I have noticed that after each symptom flareup episode (starts every 2 weeks +/- a day or so), there is a small amount of residual damage that in a few episodes is not noticable but after several years of these undulant flareups, there is a notable accumulation of damage that does not seem to go away, the "pins ad needles" included. For me it has progressed to being a significant reduction in the ability to sense pain in the affected areas.
This may not be appicable to you as I am a late stage case, with several coinfecitons mixed in or more likey, several co-infection with lyme mixed in (I had some of he co-infections first)
good luck
If you are still at the university can you email me at [email protected], I have an interesting item to discuss.

Took about 6 months of different abx for Bart to quell this annoying ad scary sx. It did improve so hang in there and keep the faith.
LLMD said it can be a bb, Bart, and metals sx.

With treatment this symptom both improved and got worse for me. The sensation of pins and needles that was caused by untreated lyme improved with treatment.
I believe that 10 mos of zithromax and flagyl (flagyl is known to cause neuropathy) caused more of this sensation for me.
I think a key question to ask is what brings about the symptom of pins and needles and in each case how best to treat.
In lyme, why do some folks experience pins and needles. Is is neurological, circulatory, a relapse, a herx etc?
I addressed the lyme infection with abx and it helped. The neuropathy cause by flagyl I treated with infrared light therapy and it helped.
Thankfully for me this symptom has finally resolved however it was never a major symptom for me.
I seem to remember in your case you had skin burning sensations as a major symptom. Has this turned into more of a pins and needles symptom? Is the symptom localized or migrating to certain areas?
Keeping some kind of journal will help tremendously if your not already doing that.
I hope this makes sense and helps.

The reduction of pins and needles and brain fog have been the only result so far for me. I have been on abx for about 6 weeks.
The pins and needles still come occasionally when I have done too much walking, or get too hot (I can do a pool, but not a hottub). The nerves react to heat, is what my neuro told me a few years ago.

I was diagnosed with Lyme in May of this year. The pins and needles was one of my first symptoms that started in March. It started in one arm and then progressed to all four limbs within 2 weeks. It was continuous....24/7, and sometimes burned as well. I had a bunch of other symptoms at the same time(stiff, painful neck, headache, fatigue, and knee pain)but none were as annoying as the pins and needles. After starting antibiotics, most of my symptoms subsided within a couple weeks EXCEPT the pins and needles. It wasn't as bad as the onset, but it was still with me. It would flare up every few weeks, but I did notice throughout the summer it was becoming less severe. My LDMD told me this is one symptom that may take awhile to go away. By the end of the summer, it was pretty much gone. I noticed it only in one hand and that was only after I worked on the computer for several hours. I stopped the antibiotics in the fall because I was feeling great and symptom-free, but had a relapse last month and am now back on them. The good news is that the pins and needles symptom is hardly noticable compared to the stiff, painful neck and shoulders! So just trying to be positive and tell you it can get better; it did for me. Eight months ago I thought I was going to die and could not stand the pins and needles all over my body.
Good luck and take care of yourself.
