I know I wasnt suppose to but had to. It went really well except my line came out about a centimeter when the sorba-view was placed over it.
That should be alright, right?
Has anyone here ever changed there dressing before? I hope my nurse dont get to mad.

Hey ho --

A centimeter should not be a problem, but you really have to check with your Doc and/or infusion company to be sure (depending on where your PICC was places and how long it was, ect..which they should know)

I have changed my son's PICC line, did it every week for a couple of years actually..but I was trained.

(and to tell you the truch have also changed my own from time to time..
but I only felt comfortable because I had done and watched the procedure about 1000 times.)

The field must be sterile - totally,
must use the sterile technique with the alchonol and benedictine swabs .. (if it so happens that you didn't I would have them change it again asap.)

it takes a great deal of dexterity without assistance to bandage the wings in place under the Tagederm..and to change the extention tubing.

- and yes, one slight tug and you'll have slippage.
That line can come right out easily, actually.

You're nurse might give you a stern word or two on it, but you do have to tell her so she can check things out..

Blessings,

Mo

I did it once when it got damp and fell off. The nurse talked me thru it on the phone. The llmd had no problem as long as everything was CLEAN.

The toughest part was doing it one handed!

My nurse just left she was not to thrilled that I changed my own bandage. She did inform me that the centimeter of line that came out can not be pushed back, oh well I am glad I did not try!

Hi-

I have an allergy to the tapes, etc. so I have to change my own dressing 2x per day. It's no big deal. My line came out a centimeter at a time until I had to get a new one. Now, it's sewn to my skin so it can't move. Painful to get done, but definitely worth it if you're going to have it for a while.
