I am hoping there is someone out there in lyme land that can help me.
I have had my second exascerbation of a rash in 6 months. The first occurred in April and was on both my legs, hands and I cannot describe the agony of itching. I was on Ketek, Ceftin and Flagyl at the time and immediately stopped everything, however the rash never fully went away.
This time, I was on IV claforan and Levaquin when things spiralled out of control. I now have the rash on both hands, legs, arms, face and even a tiny bit under my picc line dressing. I just began seeing "the Dr. B. in NY" in September. He told me that he thinks the rash is either from leaky gut or lyme. I just don't understand how I can take the Diflucan, and Nystatin and follow the diet and still have leaky gut, especially since Claforan bypasses the gut. If this is from lyme, why would it suddenly get so much worse. I would appreciate any and all ideas. This is the first time ever I have considered stopping everything and taking my chances. Anyone have any ideas?????

Quitting is not an option. Read my quote below. I know how you feel. Which way do I go? Which way do I go? That's from a cartoon from my childhood, I just can't remember which one? Anyone know?
Rene, this illness is very puzzling and sometimes you can beat your head against the wall trying to figure out what's happening in your body. It could be a herx type reaction. What about other supplements, meds you're taking? Allergic reaction?
Keep looking for help,
Pam

Is this horrendous herxing???
I will be thinking of you and come back to see what others post.

I had a rash situation which sounds similiar but I wasn't on antibiotics at the time. I had it all over my hands, bottoms of feet, thighs, stomach, and neck. Tried everything, baths, creams, antihistimines, treatment for scabies, etc.
If you are into alternative treatments, 2 sessions with my NAET practitioner/acupuncturist/chiropractor took it away. I had had it almost 5 months at the time. Just a thought. Posts: 460 | From Illinois | Registered: Aug 2005

Rashes and such tend to be liver related. With so many abx etc. in your system the liver can become overloaded and can result in rash.
If you're feeling up to it, you may want to consider doing a liver flush or at least some cleansing with milk thistle, dandelion, and other liver toning herbs.
Cheers,
Alison

If the rash is truly connected to leaky gut, then you need to be doing something heal the lining of the gut. Diflucan, Nystatin, and the diet only deal with yeast issues. They don't heal the gut itself.
If Dr. B doesn't handle this, you could see someone who does. There are numerous products and supplements that will help calm the inflammation and heal the mucous membrane.
THAT is, if it is caused by leaky gut. There is a test by Great Smokies that can check for leaky gut. Or, it could, as Alison says, be due to liver issues. Those protocols are different. It seems like you need to find out the cause, before you can really approach a cure.
No doctor, no matter how good, can know everything. Dr. B's area of expertise is TBIs. But there is much that can affect patients that fall outside of that expertise.

I bet you Dr B tested at great smokies already. He tested me for that on my first appt.
Rene patience is the key to keep this disease under control. Don't waste the opportunity of having a good LLMD. I have been on this train for five years without stopping abx literally every day. And I can tell you it is worth it.

rene, i can totally relate to your "rash" symptoms. I was broken out in hives for 6 monthes straight. I tried everything from creams to pretnisone etc. My LLMD gave me valtrex. I had mono and shingles and as soon as I tried it the rash of 6 monthes was gone within 24 hours! I couldn't used off-brands of this drug it was specifically valtrex-so ask them and see what they say-

You should be taking multistrain probiotics in the multibillion count at least twice a day, one hour before meals with a full glass of water, apple or pear juice.
The other timing for them would be as far away from when you take your antibiotics as possible.

Absolutely correct.
Hope you find the answer soon!

The last time I had a rash like the one you are discribing my Dr Told me it was a dermal herx.
I know what you mean about it about ready to drive ya crazy. But I gotta say for me,I strapped myself in and hung on for dear life. I was glad I did because when my rash finally went away I felt the best I had felt in a long time.
For me I didn't know untill I was done with the IV and heavy duty "Big Guns" and took some time out to clear my body of toxins exactly how well I would feel.

Sounds like the old "Deputy Dog" Cartoon in which he was always asking "Which way did he go, Which way did he go" meaning the bad guy he would be chasing.
Tells me you and I are in the same age group.

I can relate...I have been dealing with a ROTTEN itchy rash for 2.5 years now. NOT from abx as it started before treatment. Sometimes covering 75% of my body. I itch till I bleed. Been to a ZILLION ducks. Still not sure if its lyme or not but Dr. J in conn. tested one of the worst spots that turned into a nasty lesion and found strep. Not sure if the strep is main cause of rash or secondary infection. Im on augmentin XR for the strep and we shall see if it takes the rash away completely. It is better but not gone. I has had a history of waxing and waning.
good luck...pattiecake

I was on IV Clafran(sp) too when I broke out in terrible HIVES raised a half inch or more and covered my body. Itch would not quite describe it. Had several ducks look at it and they were clueless. Took a LONG time to get rid of too. Some were raised way higher, almost like a anthrax exposure. heard afterwards IV Clafran can do that, dont ask why, but it is or was way past a rash. Looked hideous, lucky no body here to see it. I think I used baking soda on a wet wash cloth to soothe. Hope all is better soon!!!because I am still known as --just don--
