I'm sure there are always new folks who show up and just read....then there are our regular lurkers. [Hey all you lurkers....I mean that in the nicest way!! ]

Yes, but this many at one time? My guess is that it is the trolls from the Shapiro camp, coming to see what our strategy is. Or looking for more evidence. Or coming to gloat over the damage and upset they have caused. People who would do this to Dr. J and to innumerable children will do anything. Nothing is too low or dispicable.
You are a charming, sweet person lymetoo, and don't always recognize what stinkers some people can be. Too trusting by half!!

We could be hospitable, and invite them in for crumpets and tea with a little antibotics on the side.
Seriously, I think there are new lymies that are apprehesive about registering because of all the hype about scams, spams, and if it's late stage...the paranoia that goes with this disease.
I'm sure the other camp is lurking, and hopefully having a change of heart about how wrong they are about lyme. One can only hope!
It would be nice if they put the patients first instead of their pockets!
I am logging out now to go pick up my contacts. Hopefully I'll find my way back.

Perhaps it would be useful to remind some folks of the search options, because it seems that some of the questions are getting repetitive.

I make it a point to log out when I am done posting on these pages. I realize though that I do not always bother to log in when I am reading others' posts, and I do so almost every day; it is not necessary to do until you want to post. I have a feeling that in this case, I/we appear as "guests." I don't think it is at all as suspicious as it may have seemed! :-)

Lou, I wouldn't be that concerned about it.
I'm like Julie. 1st I'm very absent minded and FORGET to log off. When I do and I come in to read, I don't log on until I have something to say.
Yes, I know; I always have something to say but there are are many days when I have little time and NOTHING to say!

Maybe they're all like we were at one time... wondering if this (Lyme) is what they have.
I never log in, but the site always knows who I am, so I would think I'm never a "guest" anymore. Is that right?

I am sure there are new folks here who we would definitely want to welcome. It gets confusing when you are dealing first with a diagnosis, and second a medically contentious disease.
I am also sure that those working against Dr. Jones in the other 'camp' are reading our posts as well.

Nah, I'm positive we have ppl here lurking due to the Dr J situation.
It is not suprising. We all know that they would definitely stoop that low.

I agree with Jill...... I'm kind of suspicious too, given the timing of some the new posters, and the questions asked.
I wouldn't put it past any of the Shapiro camp to be looking for evidence to use ......
Tis a shame.

Hey guys I was out of town this summer when the new changes in the site occured. I almost never got my password again to post so now I just don't log off. Sorry if this is not a good idea. Please let me know if we should always do so. Take care, mimi
Oh yeah if our "guests" are here I hope they will find it in their hearts to try and understand this is a tragic diesease that is destroying very productive lives. Just my 2 cents

The 'guests' that show up at the bottom of the flash page are either not registered.. or registered and not logged in..
so if you forget to log off, you are showing as 'logged in user', not as guest..
Guests are probably allot of folks that are reading and not posting at a given time , registered or not.. the bulk of the guests are harmless I'm sure..
but members should be aware that some of the folks that want to create obstacles to Lyme activism, wish to go after LLMD's, insurance companies and the like, ect.. have and do lurk here.
This is why it's important not to post your letters to Doc J's attorney here or too many other specifics on that subject, for example...............

Also, there has been an influx of ppl posting in the searching for a doctor section.
29 since the day Dr J's situation was posted.
A couple that I checked had not registered until right after the Dr J posts.
Just a FYI. Be careful what kind of info you give others, keep moderators informed if your suspicious about someone, check to see when they registered if their post seems odd to you...

Jill, funny that you said what you did. I had a not-so-good feeling about a couple of the medical posters. Others seemed, like I had once been, honestly (sometimes desparately) in search of good information.
I have been making some replies a bit more generic -- information almost anyone could get with a bit of initiative. I've just left out some of my own editorial comments.
Despite that instinct, Lou, the thought of trolls still wouldn't have crossed my mind.
btw, I don't log out either

okay so i am confused-how would someone be a guest? Am I a guest? I never sign out or in-I am just always logged on..this site is so confusing to navigate-it took me like 2 weeks just figure out how to post something. How do you even figure out where these "guests" are? I wouldn't be too concerned about other people-we can only worry about ourselves. Oh and is there some rule book we need to follow here because I have never read it and don't even know where to find it. I have been a member since oct i think (so i'm sorta a newbie) but I should know this stuff by now! Thanks everyone!!

I've had the same thing, and I'm still a relative newbie, I guess.
The one that bugged me (and I notified the mods) was from a new poster, asking questions. (not that there is anything wrong with that).
But this supposed new poster, said she had her tests sent to igenex, and looking for responses. I just thought that sounded odd. New to Lyme and already know about Igenex? I never heard of it until I visited this site and read a lot of posts.
Just a lot of weird posts.....with questions that don't sound like they are really people asking for real help.
posted
hmm well just because they are new to the site doesn't mean they haven't been in treatment for a while or had testing done. I was tested by igenex in march and got my diganoises in may...it's really hard to see my doc..but I didn't join lyme net till octish so I knew all about igenex-yes I am relatively new to lyme (been in treatment for 6 monthes)but just bc people seem to be familar with certain things doesn't mean they fully understand them or that they are sketchy..however, there could be people on here that's aren't really sick and doing research. What's so wrong with "guests?" I think more people should be informed about lyme and good for them for doing research to become better educated. Just my two sense!

We aren't saying that new ppl are bad in any way.
We're happy to have new ppl come to Lymenet.
We are not happy to have trolls. There is a HUGE difference.
And some of the questions that have been asked by ppl who didn't register until AFTER the Dr J situation was posted makes you wonder if somebody is trolling Lymenet right now.
It's happened before and it will happen again.
The ppl who want to persecute Dr J and innocent, sick children would not stop at trolling Lymenet. They know we're here...

I posted this not to discourage lurkers, which have always been with us and are legitimate if they have lyme or wonder if they have lyme. Rather, it was to alert people who are too trusting and don't understand that this forum is definitely read by the oppostion. One of those trolls quoted a lymenet post in a letter to a newspaper editor. Others have had ins trouble or harrassment as a result of posting things that could be traced back to them personally.
Not signing out or whatever does not account for a sudden big jump in the number of guests on the site. If you are registered and don't sign out, you are not shown as a guest.
Someone a while back posted info about their treatment that could have been used against the doc. Done innocently by a person that didn't understand a public forum is not like the privacy of their living room. That doc was Dr. J. Was this where the info came from? I don't know but everyone needs to be more careful, and if something sounds suspicious to you, be more cautious about your replies, send them to support group or something. Yes, I know we are a support group, but an in-person or phone contact might weed out the imposters better. And if someone posts indiscreet things, contact them and point it out or report the post to moderators and let them decide.
I also posted this thread because I wanted the trolls to know that we knew they were coming here. The answer was that they left quickly. Pretty clear evidence.

There's alot of money at stake for insurance companies. They definitely want to keep things quiet about how prevalent Lyme disease is and how serious it is.
