Can someone here tell me what test I should ask for to detect mycoplasma? I am pretty sure my doc will test for the basic co-infections (bart, etc.) but if he doesn't know to test for mycoplasma, I would like to ask for him to do so. I just don't know what test I would ask for. Any ideas?

If I remember correctly, my doc was going to use a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test for the mycoplasma. He feels it's important to get a really good lab to do the results - remember, these are humans doing the test, and a good tech will catch things that another might not. I believe this test is ~95% accurate for mycoplasm, a much better rate of success than for Lyme.

MDL in New Jersey is the place for Mycoplasma testing. Medical Diagnostics Lab ..... do a google search.

Medical Diagnostics Labs in NJ is the best for mycoplasma testing.

Test 301 first, if positive Tests 302 and 338. That should give your doc all the info he/she needs to treat you if you are infected.

Great....I'm writing that down and visited the web site. Thanks a million! Oddly enough my IgM and IgG came back negative from them but positive IgM from IGenex. Not sure what test result to believe!!!

Just remembered - my doc likes Clongen Labs in MD. Should be pretty close to VA, and the guy who runs the place is very competent.

Antibody tests are unreliable for mycoplasma and can cross react. PCR is the only way to go.
