I got chest pains in October (ribs, I think),and for a few days got breathless (because I was totally weak), but these days were gone reasonably fast and didn't resume again.

I was tested negative for babesiosis (here in Europe). I had low Ferritin which made me feel very tired.

I am not sure I have babesia, but many of you here supposed I could have it, so I decided to take salt/ Vit. C and taking Artemisinin for about 5 days to see what happens.

Night sweats were gone for weeks before I started Artemisinin, but re-started again after Artemisinin. It seems I feel colder these last days.

Could that be herxing with Artemisinin?? How can one know if the medicine is working? I mean, I'm not even sure I have babesia and would like to concentrate on killing the Bb that I'm sure I have it, but for the moment, my only weapon against Borr.burg. is salt...

I started on Cat's Claw (toa -free) capsules and my herxes there were basically increase in arthritic pains, but I didn't feel any change in body temperature or night sweats (I took it for about 2 weeks before I started on Artemisinin). I wonder if herxes with Cat's Claw could also change day after day.

I decided to stop on Cat's Claw today because with salt/ C arthritic pains were too much and I got nervous, rage etc. Today I felt MUCH BETTER without Cat's Claw + Salt (only salt).

But if I don't have babesiosis, I'd rather stop Artemisinin to concentrate on killing the Borrelia.

How can anyone know if the medicine is working? If I was infected with Babesia, it was this June, together with lyme.

Thanks for any info!
Selma

Sounds like a herx Selma. Herxing is basically your symptoms intensifying so it seems reasonable that's what your experiencing. I know of others that herxed on artemisinin and cat's claw.

Careful taking artemisinin by itself, so babs doesn't build a tolerance to it. Is there no way you can get abx ? Have you checked the Eurolyme board to see if they can help you with finding a doc or procuring abx ? Lyme will not improve unless you treat the co-infections first.

Here's a site that may prove helpful:

I have seen several references to herxheimer reactions with babesia. As far as I know only a spirochete illness causes a herx (as in syphilis or lyme).

I assume the reason that people herx on the Mepron/Zith combo is because the zith is acting on the lyme.

I'm on Malarone (had a rough time with the Zith) and so far, four weeks into the treatment have only suffered a little nausea. Night sweats are almost gone. My llmd plans to treat for at least 5 months with Malarone.

Anyone else have any info about herxing and babesiosis?
