I was on oral abx. and doing fine, then I got a PICC and went on Primaxin and my WBC count went from about 5-6 down to 2.5 in a month. So off the Primaxin I went. Within a week of being off all abx. I was back to a WBC count of 4.5. Then my LLMD started me back on my orals and IV Rocephin and now my WBC count is back down to 3.8.

Does anyone know about leukopenia? If someone is suceptible to it from one abx, are they more likely to be suceptible to it from another abx? I mean Primaxin and Rocephin are in two totally different classes of meds. Has this happened to alot of others? Is this normal? I read only 2% of people on Rocephin have this and 3% of those on Primaxin have it. Can I really be this unlucky? My LLMD took me off the Primaxin because he was worried about my bone marrow and now I'm concerned that he may have to take me off the Rocephin.

Please give advice if you can...

You should listed to your LLD.

Lueukopenia is very serious and can be fatal if not caught early.

Im on my 8th week of rocephin and my WBCs are at 3.2 I think if I go below 3 they may stop me too.Its common for your WBC count to drop on antibiotics but 2.5 is low.Stay away from people as much as you can so you dont pick something up(colds ,flu).I get my blood tested tommorrow ,hope it goes up.Maybe look into pulsing rocephin.
