I know this will sound odd but I've been experiencing this strange smell.. and.. I think it's me?!!

To me, it almost smells like a burnt smell, no one else seems to smell it. I've asked my loved ones and they don't smell it.

I smell it at home, I smell it at work... Don't get me wrong I bathe and I wash my clothes... Do I smell, or is my lyme brain making me think I smell!

Anybody ever experience this?
Not a new lymie... 10 yrs plus but this is a first.
Thanks for your input

Hi L:

I do get olfatory "hallucinations" and smells like vinegar really acidic. With the combo that I am taking right now, they seem to be worse.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but at least know that you are not alone.

Take care,
Lymster in WA

Life,
I had that same experience when I was first detoxing...and that's what I decided it was -- detoxing.

Interestingly, nobody seemed to smell this but me. But it made me crazy. It was as if it was coming out of my pores.

It has turned out that I have super high olfactory sensitivity. I've heard of a lot of people with different sensory sensitivity -- light, sound, smell. For me, it's definitely been smell.

I used to eat fist several times a week. Since my dx in June and starting abx, I haven't been able to abide the smell of fish. Absolutely can't cook it and can't eat it.

Re the body odor, it did go away, probably after about a month or two of abx. I didn't do anything in particular to get rid of it; honestly I wouldn't have known what to do.

But maybe it's some relief just knowing you may heal through this.

Andie

Sort of like burnt popcorn? If so, it's yeast! An overgrowth on your skin can make you smell it all the time...it may even be setting up residence in your nasal passages - yeast loves the warm and moist places.

Gots to kill da yeasty monsters!

So that's the odd odor that I'll pick up and then not be able to smell again. Then it's back and repeat.

Lyme is a never ending discovery of odd new symptoms.

Life, have you tried doing detox baths? Epsom salt & baking soda. The skin is the largest organ and maybe taking these baths would help detox the pores. Might help?

Take care, Pam

Oh My Gosh!! I thought I have been smelling someone smoking cigarettes ever since I started Ketek and Minocin with rampup meds. I knew it was the meds because it seemed like it was coming from my pores. I sometimes feel like I can taste it as well.

I do have yeast in the gut, but I've taken Diflucan, probiotics and still have the smell!

Glad I'm not crazy!

Not long after I started treatment for lyme, I began to smell something dead in my refrigerator.
Lemon ammonia and a good scrubbing didn't take it away! My husband had to keep reassuring me there was no odor emanating from the fridge!

Then I thought the house was on fire. Husband could not smell any fire....a week later I thought my car was on fire...called hubby on cell and he suggested I was imagining it...once again. Went home and my car was fine. I thought I was really losing it!

LLMD explained that this was a fairly common symptom of lyme when the cranial nerves (nerve I) were infected. At that point I knew I did not have yeast. Sure enough, with further treatment this weird symptom disappeared!

Hallucinatory smells can also come on with an
"aura"--this proceeds a seizure. I have had
them in the past when I would smell oranges or
gasoline in my bedroom. That night I would have
a seizure.

My doctors explained them to me as auras.
