Hi everyone,

I am starting Iv rochephin, along with oral Zithrowmax and tinidzole on monday, and my doctor wants me to pulse it four days on three days off,

Is pulsing good or bad, i mean will it cause any drug resistance, i am going to be on very high doses so i am going to need the breaks, he wants me on four grams of Rochephin per day, along with 1500 grams of tini to keep the lyme from going into cyst form, and also Zithrowmax.

I have a feeling i wont be able to handle all of them, but we will have to wait and see, I was on a similar combo with orals and i only made it four weeks, that was ceftin, biaxin and tini combo, but that was also my first month of tx so my bug load should be lower. I had my best improvement after that so i have a feeling this is going to help alot, but i am dreding the herxes already.

Hi kiddo,

That pulsing is good with rocephin because it will protect your gallbladder. Rocephin can cause sludging that can become gallstones. Pulsing and taking Actigall as a preventative help there.

My teen had to have her gall bladder removed I believe, because she did Rocephine 7days a wk for 6wks with not Actigall.

It is stressful to start new regimen. Good thing is that even with IV, your dr. can adjust change abx or dose whenever herxing is too much.
Or give break. My daughter was having a hard time on 1 gram Rocephin plus flagy. She is the sensitive type. So dr. is giving 1 wk break.

So you are not locked into a treatment if it is too hard on you. Just speak up.

You sound smart. What would you like to do with your life when you get better?

Hey Char i am thinking about becoming a doctor, but i am a far ways away from being well, but i did catch it in the first year so i should be able to kick it eventially,

just so hard going through it and not knowing. Plus i have the age thing on my side, my immune system is still functioning at a high level. Well it was until i got lyme. But you know what i mean. I am hoping the Iv will help with the constant nerve pain i have. It is so painful, i hate it and it never goes away.

I think pulsing of oral antibiotics is a good thing. I am not sure about pulsing of IV ABX - probably depends on the length of the planned course.

Be well,
