I noticed that a few people have indicated their LLMD has asked them to go off abx for a few weeks. I have been told to do this as well after 9 months abx. He said he wanted me to monitor what happens over the next 3 weeks without abx.
Would anyone have any enlightenment why we are asked to stop abx at times?

I'm sure someone can fill in the details better than I can but the LLMD I went to see said that lyme is different that normal bacteria. Pulsed antibiotics (start abx, stop abx, start abx, etc) can treat lyme better that constant anitbiotics. I am not sure the reason for this but since I am stopping doxy next week for an entire week before starting a new combo of abx I wanted to find out why and if this was ok.

They might ask you to stop for a while if your liver is struggling.

My understanding is that stopping the abx and starting again may cause the cystic form of lyme to come out of "hiding" giving the abx a chance to kill it.
That's the theory anyway. I'm pulsing my abx so we'll see.

Good evening Brighty,
There may be several reasons why your doc asks that you take an antibiotic holiday. Besides the good reasons already listed above... He/she may want to observe how you do without meds in your system. Your reaction will help to gauge how the meds are affecting treatment.
Another reason would be to give your body a break in order to clear a few toxins away and to clear the med affects too. This way when you begin again, it will be like a clean slate without residual med or toxin effects.
My best, melanie
