I desperately need to try a new detoxifier and my gp suggested Aloe, but which one. On WholeHealthMD.com they give general info. and it says get the juice from the gel and not a concentrated form. The rind of the leaf contains a more harsh latex laxative that is not suggested for long term use.
Well the more I look the confuseder I get. Most of the brands do not say anything about latex but do say whole leaf. Im guessing whole leaf means it has the unwanted latex but really am not at all sure.
Ive run out of looking it up capabilities so hoping someone here has knowledge they will share. If not will hope I have more "look up" skills another day.
Thanks All for at least reading.

Hi, I'm currently drinking Aloe Vera juice in hopes of reducing the inflamation and arthritic type pain from my Lyme. In researching it, I learned it is very important how it is processed. The polysacharides (sp?) are the most important ingredient and are good for you in many ways. First I purchased a $10 version from CVS which required 4 to 8 ozs per day, but the bottle mentioned nothing about polysacharides. So then I went to a health food store and purchased a $20 bottle which only requires 2 to 4 tablespoons a day. I am drinking it. No noticeable change as yet except swelling is down. However, I started acupuncture at the same time, so not sure which one to credit.
I hope this is some help.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but WHY aren't you folks taking Smilax, (sarsparilla root), to clean your blood?

You sent me running to wholehealthmd and the literature for the aloe product I use. Someone recommended this to me on another list. I've been using it for about 4 months now. When I first started getting some mental functioning back I started going on line and think about what I need to do for myself, I "got" that health starts in the gut. Enter aloe. My digestive health has never been right anyway - gas bloating, constipation, almost constant pain, discomfort. All of that is gone, I'm glad to say. Feeling good from that perspective has improved my outlook considerably. Did I have a lot of inflammation going on? Probably. I now make better choices in what I eat too and I've even lost some weight. The product I use is made by Aloe Master. You can easily find this on the web. It is whole leaf aloe vera concentrate, but they say that aloin and emodin are filtered out (key substances of aloe latex). All I use now is 1 oz in my juice in the AM. Give them a call if you have any concerns, and if you do, let me know what you find out! I think drinking this stuff has helped me, and if there's something I should be warned about, I'd like to know. Thanks and Good Luck!

It Christmas so I gave myself the gift of doing a little more hunt and seek on the net. Still in a confused state.
It seems the inner gel is what was the old traditional use and the new "whole leaf" and filtered is what most of the manufactures tout as having the most good stuff but Im still baffled.
The non selling info sites say the non filtered inside natural gel that you have to drink more of and hasnt been thru a filter process still has the most of what nature intended.
I did finally find an email of one american organic mfg and sent them some ??? I hope I will understand their answers.
Anyway thanks for your inputs.

JIMBOB The reason Im not taking a blood cleaner is cuz thats not where the blockage is. The blockage is clearly in the bowels and that what I need to keep moving.
Im taking mega antibiotices, probiotics, chlorella, flax seed and I still need something more. When I get cleaned out I always immediately feel better and my brain actually doesnt feel as fogged up.
Some might say Im full of xxxx and I suspect they are right. If the shoe fits I guess I have to wear it.

Hi sofy Thanks for the feedback. Do keep us posted. Drinking aloe has helped me greatly. If there's a better product out there, I'd like to know as well. It certainly isn't cheap, but I know it is something I'd probably use for life (if I can afford it!) Cheers, SY

Have you checked good old Wal-Mart? I get an aloe vera product there for 7 bucks a gallon. It is organic, no added sugar, starch or thickeners. It is 100% gel fillet. It lists citric acid and sodium benzoate (a food preservative at 1/10 of 1%) as added ingredients.
I haven't checked this out but it lists a web site...www.fote.com.
I have major gut issues. I believe it helps.

OK my hands are up in the air and I am giving up. All the sights that dont sell anything tell me to look for such and such but I could not find a product to meet all those standards and if I did I probably couldnt afford it anyway.
I just went down to Walmart and got the Fruit of the Earth. It looks a little oxidized but meets quite a few of the standards and is ok to give it a try. Doesnt taste real good but not real bad either.
Ive been taking it a few days and not sure I see any improvement but will give it a few weeks.
Thanks for all your inputs and sorry I wasnt able to come up with something but then life goes on anyway so drink up and be merry!

Hi Sofy: IF by bowels you mean the LARGE intestine, then I have no real advice for you, since I have NO large intestine, I don't have THAT problem.
However, we must keep in mind that BLOOD goes through the WHOLE body, including the bowels, and many things are absorbed through the blood from the bowels. The LIFE is in the blood. Keep it clean, and you will be happier, all around. Do you take milk thistle? How about acidophilus? These plus the Smilax are very important to your health and well being, especially if you are taking ANY abx. Since the abx throw the BALANCE of your body way off. Remember THEY kill the good WITH the bad.

Carol & Jimbob Carol thanks for the info but I usually try to avid highly processed products and look for a whole food product with as little processing as possible.
Jimbob; I just looked up sasparilla and it lookes like it pretty benign so may add it. I prefer to take the root rather than a processed product and my Mountain Rose Herb catalog lists it from Jamaica and Mexico in both whole root form or powder. Do you have any suggestions as to which I should order and how much of it I should take. How many times per day, with or without food etc.
I make a breakfast of organic cocoa, walnuts, fresh ground flax seed etc. This might be a good place to put it if I just had an idea of how much.
The old guys who told us about this were using the whole root not some pill or tincture and I like to think that there has to be an advantage to eating the whole root that our maker provided.
I dont know enough about anatomy to tell you where the blockage is but the minute I started on the high doses of tetracycline it started. Im taking chlorella and flax seed 3 x a day and its still problematic.

Aloe is wonderful, but the way it is processed does make a difference. Something I have tried that truly makes a marked difference in how I feel is Sea Silver. It's base is Aloe, but it is also chalk full of minerals we need. Garlic will help clean the blood as well. I also drink Pomegranite juice, it is a great antioxidant.
