My husband had his picc line removed two weeks ago (end of this treatment). He had no problems with it while it was in. Within a couple days of it coming out, he developed a rash on his arm just below the picc line entry point in the crook of his elbow and it then spread half way to his wrist. The rash is just tiny red dots and it is quite itchy. Any views?

Hi brodiemac !

Our adult daughter developed an itchy rash at the site while the PIIC was still in place. It became so bad and the arm so swollen that the PICC had to be removed. The itching was terrible!!!

That was about three years ago. Would you believe....she still has an itchy rash reappear at the site every now and again!!?

We never were able to establish for sure what the cause was .... It has been speculated that it was an allergy to the IV meds, or possibly something about the material of the line itself (she is very chemically sensitive).

I don't know if this will help but thought I would share. If nothing else....it points out that strange things sometimes happen without an explanation!
