Our 9-year-old was cured of lyme, or so we (and his LLMD) thought. A couple of weeks before school started this year he had a sudden downward spiral. His symptoms came back shortly after discovering the rash, and I've included it below. We do live in a lyme endemic area and we are active outdoors with go-carts, 3- and 4-wheelers, etc.

We're not sure if he relapsed or if the rash means he's been reinfected. Nonetheless, we started antibiotic treatment per our LLMD's advice.

For obvious reasons I can't show you the rash in it's entirety, but it does have central clearing.

Just wondering what your impression is?

Thanks!

He almost looks galded like when you sweat or get damp then rub the area over and over like a brush burn from his own skin.

But if hes having symptoms get em back to the LLMD

Well, in view of the area it's in, it's a prime target, being in a 'crease' in the skin and all.. In view of increasing symptoms, I'd go with LLMD's advice too. What did HE think about the bite? I'd agree better safe than sorry!

Hope older son is doing good on his new treatment also!

Hang in there Victoria!

Thanks much for your input. We didn't even think of taking the photo with us to his last LLMD appointment. The important thing is that he's taking medication for lyme, not whether or not it was a relapse or reinfection.

I've just been curious about the rash. I know it's a target area for ticks, but since it was summer and very hot, he also could have been galded.

Michelle, Thanks for asking about my eldest! Dusty admits to feeling better on antibiotics. Hooray! I can see that he's more focused than he's ever been before. This is something new for him. I know he has a brand new, better life waiting for him around the corner. Sure hope I can convince him to continue treatment when he's at his worst.

Thanks everyone.
