IGeneX Lyme IgM Western Blot test results: 18 kDa: + 23-25kDa: + 31 kDa: ++ 34 kDa: IND 39 kDa: IND 41 kDa: IND 58 kDa: + 93 kDa: +
IGeneX Lyme IgG Western Blot test results: 39 kDa: + 41 kDa: +++
MDL Test results: Lyme DNA by Real-Time PCR (blood-1): Negative Lyme DNA by Real-Time PCR (urine-2): Negative
I have not spoken to my daughter's LLD yet about these results (I will call him on Monday) but was wondering why the difference in results between MDL and IGeneX? The really GREAT news is that after a two year battle with co-infections, both tests now show NO signs of Babesiosis or Mycomplasma Fermentans! Yeahhh...two down and one to go! Happy New Year!

Western blot looking for antibodies. PCR at MDL looking for antigen. Perfectly possible to have positive on antibody with neg on antigen.And for more than one reason. PCR is a low yield test, often doesn't find it even when it is there, at least in the case of lyme, but if you get a positive PCR, this is evidence the disease agent is present. Antibody tests can be positive even after disease organism gone.
You need to realign your thinking about lab testing! It is not the exact science that the general public expects. Think grays, instead of black and white.And it helps to know something about the nature of tests. Might be something in the newby section, have a look there for explanation of testing.

Well, that's a right positive IgM if I ever saw one.
I hate to sound biased, but in my humble opinion, there is no lab anywhere as good as IGeneX.
If THEY see it, it's THERE.
There are some mighty borrelia-specific bands showing up positive. That 31 band is nothin' to trifle with - yikes! Assuming she still has corresponding Lyme symptoms, I'd say disregard the MDL test.
Congrats on babs and mycoplasma biting the dust.

PCR is not particularly sensitive but is 100% accurate and can be taken as proof positive on its own.(It is not that "sensitive" as you need to "catch" a bacteria in your sample, which after abx or in late stage is very hard to do in the blood or CSF)
WB is more sensitive (as it shows that your immune system still detects the bug) but may not be 100% accurate due to cross reactions or "dirty" WB films and must be evaluated with the symptoms for proof of disease.

Thanks for the feedback. Symptoms defintely point to Lyme so unless our Lyme Doc tells us otherwise, we will continue her treatments. Thanks again!
