Hi..I've been reading here for a few weeks. This is my first post. I've been on various antibiotics for 10 months, since being diagnosed. Having some "female" type yeast problems. I don't know if it is systemic, want to avoid that. My diet has been very good, off and on, but not over the holidays! I want to start fresh, and my LLMD prescribed diflucan 150 mg, just four pills, to be taken one per week. I haven't read about anyone taking it that infrequently. What's your opinion on this being effective for me? I also take probiotics, kefir, etc. Thanks, Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Everyone in our house is on the Diflucan protocol for lyme, yeast and anything else that might be lurking about.
We all were on antibiotics(abx) for a LONG time before doing this.
It sounds like your doctor is trying to prevent a systemic infection. Our "maintainence" dose of diflucan is 100mg once a week, but for an undetermined lengh of time.
We all seem to be making very good progress on the protocol, only the passage of time will tell just how effective this protocol is. It is pretty new, with not a lot of data published.
If you aren't taking probiotics, acidophillus, to replace to good bacteria killed by abx, you should be. Prevention is the best thing with yeast.
Hey- Welcome to lymenet, sorry that you have to join us here. Here's to starting your new year off right!

Hi Lisa
Diflucan works well for many--
The Very Most Important thing you can do is the No Carb diet--
Sounds like you eat ok now- so it wont be hard for you to do--
The book Yeast Connection is a very good book - I have found everything in the book to be true--
The book also has many good meals to eat ect.-
Because you have lyme and and are taking ABX the the candida is going to be a on going problem --Jay--

Thanks for the responses. I can certainly live with a no sugar diet. But I don't know how a body can function without the complex carbs found in whole grains. I won't be giving those up yet, just limiting them.
Are sugar alcohols safe on a diet to reduce yeast? I'd love to aim for an all natural, whole food diet without sugar, but in case I can't, I'm hoping some of the products with sugar alcohols wouldn't hurt!
Thanks, Lisa
