Hi all. I wasn't feeling well on Sunday, and read a thread about detoxing in a hot bath and decided to try it that night. Put epsom salt, table salt, bicarb, and hydrogen peroxide in the bath and sat for as long as I could take it, adding more hot water as it cooled off. I know the bath water was at least 104 or higher most of the time.
Monday, I felt great. My achy feet, legs, body were much improved and I was able to go out and take care of a lot of business/errands. I also went to the Y and exercised for a little while, maybe 35-40 minutes or so, fairly low to moderate stress. I've been doing about 30-35 minutes most recently.
Today (Tuesday) I woke up and my hands were extremely stiff and achy, my wrists hurt, my elbows hurt, actually just about every part of my body hurt. My eyes were drooping, I was fatigued, and I had a terribly sore throat.
I remember reading that hot baths can help the abx therapy. Do you think this could be a herx from the hot detox? I know the first few times I tried exercising a little, it completely wiped me out the next day, but I thought I might have passed that stage.
Anyone else have any similar experiences?
Thanks,
patti

Patti, Sorry, but I'm assuming you over did it on exercising those muscles. We often suffer afterwards after even some mild exercising, or at least I do. I don't think exercising would create a herx., although I could be wrong.
I hate that you have gone through this, but, I understand, it has happened to me so many times over the past few years. I now know my liminations and try to never over do my muscles or over do anyting. This is ver difficult to do when we have days that we feel almost normal, guess it is just human nature to want to live normal but pay later.
Hopefully, there will others who will respond to your post with something more positive. Take care. Gaye

I did a hydrogen peroxide bath - 3% 1 quart - and have a MAJOR headache afterwards. So I would say it is possible to herx - especially from the Hydrogen Peroxide.

The hot baths feel so good, but twenty minutes later, I do herx. I don't believe your pain came from the bath though. Too much time inbetween. I believe it was the exercise.
If I do any exercise, I pay for it the next day. I was very fit before becoming so sick and when I feel good enough, I exercise now even knowing I will pay for it later. I don't do anything you would normally call strenous. Yesterday, I just did some very basic yoga stretches for just about 5 mins. Today my leg muscles ached so bad. Ridiculous.
Still, I believe a fit body will heal faster than an unfit one. So I try as I can.
Lucky you that the bath was so helpful. I love to soak in a hot tub.

If you are on abx & do a hot bath you could be having a delayed herx.
If I take my last abx say on friday I have herxed up to three to 4 days later.
This is just my own personal experience.
But my bet would be you may have over did on the excercies.
gets some rest & feel better soon.

psano, I did he same thing two days ago and woke up in pain (and I just did sit ups and calf raises and a few stretches) Last night I took 1 tsp of tumeric after the same routine. woke up this am with no pain! It apparently worked (antiinflamatory) for me.
I'm going to try it again tonight just to test it out....kt

Three years ago when I started doing detox baths, they were very hard on me. I would do them on my really bad pain days. I only used epsom salt & baking soda. A practioneer told me the peroxide thing was too harsh for my sick body.
My water would be very warm but not extremely hot. The heat would be too much on me. I'm hypothyroid, so heat is issue. And I learned 12 minute soak was my limit. I would wrap myself up in robe and do light work around house for 15 minutes to keep me sweating. I would be completely drained from this.
Today my detox baths are an energy booster for me. I can wake up being achey. Do a detox bath and feel on top of the world and almost painfree for several hours. Sometimes I feel like the Energizer bunny, sometimes I'm the hare.
I think maybe the detox bath with exercise and activity was too much for you in a day. Many times heavy detoxing methods have kicked my rear the next day and the next.

Yeah, patti, when I was symptomatic, exercise could make me feel the worst 2 days after, instead of the very next day. Weird.
But I think the mental and physical benefits of exercise are so important, that it is a good thing to go ahead and work out if you can, then schedule extra rest to make up for it.
Sick, a detox bath could wipe me out, make me want to go to bed. Now, I feel relaxed and refreshed. And light exercise now makes me feel better, like it used to.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I guess I thought it might have been a herx bec my hands hurt so much. They've never hurt that much before, and I had made a point of keeping them submerged in the hot water as much as possible.
I like the idea of doing something natural and non-chemical to my body that would have a synergistic effect w/the abx I'm taking. And since I tolerate heat pretty well, it would be an easy way to help battle the bug.
I'll try it again, but next time, maybe I won't exercise the next day, just to see if the response is any different.
