I'd like to hear people's experiences who have been on rifampin and doxy and how they've coped with the side effects, I know "second time around" was starting a course in November.

I'm currently on IV rifampin 600 mg and Iv doxy 400mg and miserable, am cutting the rifampin back to 300 and that's helped some, but am not sure if it is still therapeutic.

Thanks for sharing,
Kathy

I am on orals . I do 600mg rifampin, 200 mino, and ramping up to 6 grams amoxicillin a day.

I have felt pretty crappy for the last month. I am handling the meds ok though.

I think 600 mg is oretty standard for rifampin and would check with your doc before lowering it.

Hope it gets better for both of us...heck all of us,
robi

Hi Kathy,

I stuck it out as long as I could (almost a month) and then gave up the rifampin. Stayed with the doxy off and on with good results. I prefer rife to antibiotics but use them according to the outline in Bryan's book.

Bottom line, I think the rifampin helped but I just didn't tolerate it well.

All My Best,
Scott

Thanks Robi. I did talk to my MD and she said the pathway in my liver that metabolizes rifampin (P450) is not functioning well (I had the same problem with zithromax which is also metabolized through this pathway)so my drug levels were building up - i.e. a lowere dose would be as effective for me as a high dose for someone else. We're stopping the rifampin for 3 days to let it clear and then will restart at 300 mg and titrate down if needed.

I'm on Rifamp and Mino. Getting used to the orange urine, granted it freaks me out a bit. Reminds me of taking Pyridium for IC or UTI.

This combo packs a real punch.
