anyone else with osteo-arthritis? I know it's considered the old folks disease, but I'm only 52!

How about the "ripping of tendon" feeling upon use of wrists, fingers, etc?

I'm with you, Msaires
Prior to my Lyme dx, I was dealing with severe osteoarthritis -- in my right knee and in my right hip.

I tried everything I could think of (chiro, otrho, sports doc, new mattress, new shoes, pt), but the pain kept getting worse, and x-rays and mri's confirmed. I figured that was going to be my future.

What I didn't consider was Lyme Disease...nor did any of the 13 ducks I saw.

Now that I've been on abx for about 7 months, I am beginning to see very slow improvement overall. But some symptoms have gotten amazingly better. I was realizing last night that I haven't had any pain or discomfort in my hips at all for the past month or so. A lot of the swelling in my knee is reduced, too, though I still have some pain.

I have no idea what's causing the improvement:
abx, detox foot pads, increased glucosamine and calcium...all of the above...who knows?
I just know I now feel like I can hope again.

Andie

I have the arthritic lyme which began in Aug 05 when a treatment procedure called Bioset which I was doing for a morning cough set the lyme into motion.

With treatment (homeopathic only) my symtoms grew 1000% worse, but now are only about 50% worse than before symptoms began(950% improved) and improving steadily. I do not expect any permanent damage.

I can't be sure when I was infected but know I had it in 1995 at which time I received 6 mths antibiotics and think it may have just been quietly growing in my system waiting for ideal conditions to reappear. I believe the Bioset drove it from its hiding place.

I have read where it can cause osteo-arthritis, but I know osteo-arthritis can be reversed with proper nutrition and supplements. Hyuluronic Acid replaces the synovial fluid in your joints. The injections help initially but will eventually cause more damage. However, taken orally it is not supposed to have any negative effect. MSM is also supposed to be great. Take supplements now to help reduce damage and continue taking after the Lyme is resolved.

Hey, fellow horse person.. Thought I'd tell you one thing I found out. During this experience with Lyme, I have gotten a number of prolotherapy injections in my knees, lower back, feet and ankles.

Actually, prolotherapy helps quite a bit. I would recommend it. The doc I went to for this wanted me to take glucosamine, but he also wanted me to take something called Super Gelatin. Folks feed it to horses too for their joints... [Wink] . It comes in a big 'ol tub.

I ordered it from the web. It's majorly cheap, so I thought I'd tell you about it. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll find it for you.

By the way, I also had a series of 10 hyaluronic acid injections in each knee four years ago at the start of all this. I'm not sure what I think of this. Everything was so messed up then that it was hard to tell. I didn't know you could take it orally. I've never heard of that.

Why will hyaluronic injections eventually cause more damage? I knew cortisone did, but never heard that about this.

I'm not sure why the hyaluronic injections are damaging. I had a horse with a hock injury and I confess, what I know about hyaluronic acid came from this injury and vets put me onto the oral version for my horse. They (3) are the ones who told me the injections were damaging.

I purchased two bottles of Hyalun from Clinton Anderson's website. However, my mare is fit and sound. I'm now the gimpy one. So......this is a BIG SECRET!!!! Don't tell anyone cause I know there are sneaky people on this chatline who just want to catch us doing something stupid.... I called the manufacturer of this Hyalun and asked them if it would hurt me to take it. They also sell a human version and they told me it is the exact same thing. So I'm finishing her two bottles. shhhh.....

Hello Horse Lovers,

WOW, thanks for the info on hyaluronic acid!!! I'll definately look into that. I've always heard that animal meds were the same as human. Cheaper would be better...

I am so angry that the neurologist never suggested any treatments, nor did my PCP. I guess they are just waiting for a total herniated disc to make a little $ off me...

Did my own research & have started on SAMe & a combo of glucosimine& hyaluronic acid, if that works i'm heading to the local farm store to re-stock!

Thanks again
