I have been having headaches since last Jauary. After lots of tests and investigating, they are indeed lyme related. Ketek helped and then I went off it for a couple of weeks. Now the headaches are back big time. Dr. prescribed a "cocktail" of Fioricet, tolmetin(that's an old headache remedy) and carisoprodol. I take one of each when I get the headache and sometimes have to take another one of each an hour later. The carisoprodol(muscle relaxer) wipes me out, but I'm tolerating it better. Anyway, today I have had NO relief at all!! Is anyone else suffering with major headaches? The lyme is in my brain and that is what is causing these headaches and major memory loss. Any thougts, anybody? I'm about ready to have a "real" cocktail-or several-and put myself to sleep!!!! Forgot to say that I've been back on the ketek for one week now.

I had severe headaches with intense pressure for several weeks. It would wax and wane several times a day; but when it waxed it took me down-- in bed, afraid to move, and trying to remember to breathe. But even though it was severe, it didn't have the other features of a migraine. I was concerned that maybe a blood vessel in my head was about to burst; that was the only scenario I could think of with the intense pressure I felt in my head.
Long story short: it turned out to be muscle contractions of my entire head! Once I realized that, I put the heating pad around my head and took some Valerian root, and that helped a lot. My doc eventually decreased my meds dose slightly, too, for the time being. the solution turned out to be pretty simple. Hope it works that way for you.

Hi AngelLady. So sorry to hear you're in headache pain. I had bad headaches as my main complaint, nearly continuously for a couple of years, finally leading up to a brain MRI and eventual diagnosis of neuroborreliosis.
After about seven months of treatment things got much better.
I've been amazingly headache free since mid-November, right up until a few days ago, when things started back up.
Still, that's the LONGEST period ever to have gone headache-free --- almost two whole months! So things really will get much better with treatment.
For me, there is nothing that will touch it except for Relpax or Imitrex. I cannot take off work, and just cringe my way through till the med kicks in to dull the pain.
My brain is way spacier at these times..hard to process at work, have to ask them to slow down, one at a time, run that by me ONE more time, etc... :-) They know the drill by now!
Sure hope some relief comes soon. Perhaps some samples of those meds. Use with caution after clearing with LLMD, contraindicated for cardiac issues.

I suffered weekly migraines for years as well. Also shortterm memory problems so bad it became a standard joke in my family that you could tell me the same story over and over and I enjoyed it each time like it was the first time.
In Aug 05, I began to have migratory joint pain and that led to the Lyme diagnosis. I was referred to a pain specialist in Rockville, MD who is also very Lyme literate. He treats Lyme homeopathically as he does not feel antibiotics are a successful treatment of Lyme.
Immediately, I could literally feel the bacteria leaving my brain. It felt like drainage from my head. I awoke one night to a crackling sound in my ear following by a burning sensation down the inside of my neck. I later learned this was the bacteria trying to escape and the burning was the die off. The headaches, memory loss, and cognitive difficulties cleared up immediately and have never returned. My hearing improved as well.
I don't recommend trying homeopathy on your own. He prescribed 13 complex combination remedies based upon my needs. Anything less would probably not have been as effective.
I am in my 5th month of treatment and only have joint pain as a symptom. This continues to improve and now I only have to take Advil occasionally.

luvs2ride- Would you email me the contact infor your the homeopathic doctor you see in Rockville? The cognitive issues I have - memory loss, concentration decline, inability to remember & follow through - are threatening my job which I must keep for income as well as the insurance benefits. And the constant headaches are affecting my sanity. Thanks for your help, Lucy [email protected]

I appreciate all the replies to my post. I'm really not sure that these are migraines since I used to suffer from them when I was much younger and these are just different. The pain is in my temple and not "migraine" type pain. I do appreciate the heating pad advice, azfan. I will try that!! I will also talk to the doc about mepron and artiminisinin. He did say when I'm done with the rocephen-hopefully next week, that he will something for co-infection. Good luck to all of you.
