An acquaintance of mine was bit by a tick in October. There was a raised welt at he bite. He now has an oozing rash over his whole body. At the time of the bite he tested negative for lyme (no surprise there), but was put on 10 days of doxy (what a joke). He is being sent from dermatologist to dermatologist to try to figure out the cause of the rash and how to get rid of it.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of rash in association with lyme? There is still a ring around the tick bite.

I had an all over rash once as an allergic reaction to Keflex. Is he on any medication?

I too had an oozing rash for months. It was extremely itchy, and I stopped numerous medications thinking it was a drug reaction. Turned out mine was from bartonella.

You could have your friend check the rash page at the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation.

http://www.canlyme.com/rash.html

Maybe she'll find a picture that corresponds to hers.

Hope this helps,
Carol

Hi, MsZoo,

I had a bullseye rash in 1996. I wasn't tested for Lyme but was given 10 days of abx as a precaution.

About 4 months later, I had a horrible full-body rash. The same doc who had given me the abx took a look at this rash and literally gasped. It really was yucky.

He put me on a steroid (of course), and he suggested I stay out of sunlight and take daily soothing baths.

About 5 years after that, I again had a full body rash which was so bad I went to the ER. For the second time, I was treated with steroids.

Until I got to this site, I never once connected either of those rashes to the initial tick bite and bullseye rash.

Now, of course, I'm sure there was a definite connection.

Hope your friend gets some relief (NOT steroids, which are counterindicated for Lyme).

andie
