Hi,

Thanks! I am on my third month of tetracycline, 1500 mg's a day and I have herxed like crazy! I get bouts of fatigue, the bone pain, muscle pain, spasms, etc.

What can I do to beat the fatigue, or help myself to become stronger?

How are you?

Thanks!

Boston,

Really struggling here with the same issues. My treatment has been going well overall. Most of all my joint and muscle pain is gone.

I do however really struggle with fatigue as well as the twitching. I have tried 7-8 SSRI's which only seem to make things alot worse.

I hope you get some insightful responses.

Take care and peace.

Hi Bob

Its good you are herxing--

It is SUPER Important that you
get as Much Rest as you can--

If you have to quit job--
Do it --Its worth it --
Was for me anyways--

Depending how long you have
been sick and what coinfections
you have it could take many months
of Bed rest ---

When not in bed do something
that makes you happy and gives
you some mild exersize--

Dont over do exercize in
the beganning ---

You neede rest more than
exersize-- right now--

I ride a bicycle to stay in
shape -- it works well--

If you use stationary
excersize bicycle have
a fan blow on you so you
dont overheat---

Important because your body
will have to work to hard
just to stay cool with out it--

After you start feeling better
rest for at least 1 more month--
then add the bicycle in--

Go slowly --if you get tired
you have done to much exersize--

Your body needs all energy to
heal it self--

I got to where I felt perty good
a couple of times and went and
did things like clean the garadge-

I relapsed after Every time
I did somethig like that----

Im feeling perty good right
now but I am still going to
rest for several more months--

If I do get over this stuff
I have the rest of my life
to get back into shape--
and I will--

Get Good rest --

Also you have to keep
a positive attatude--

The 20 yrs I have been very sick
I only let my attuide go bad
for about a month or so---

You can do it too--Jay--

I wouls uggest that you take;

>Co Enzyme Q10 (expensive...but needed in energy)
>3 times daily -B-50 Complex (REALLY needed in
Lyme/Candida)
>3 times daily-Magnesium Glycinate, Lyme
depletes you of magnesium and it is also
ESSENTIAL for energy.

and...if you can afford it powder L-Glutamine.

It will take some time...but you will get better...the energy will NOT come back right away.

Also try a video on Tai Chi...fluid movement....good for lymph flow.

I would also suggest VERY hot 20 minute baths DAILY in Epsom Salts.

Good Luck,

Trout [Wink]

The only thing that has really really helped the fatigue is ketek.
Otherwise NADH helped the most, then CoQ10, B12, B6, staying off of gluten, vit C, amino acids, inositol.

Hi Rob,

One more post please. 10 yrs ago when I first contracted Lyme, I was treated with 6 mths oral abx after which time I felt completely well. My primary symptom at that time was CFS and some migrating joint pain. I worked, but the rest of the time, I just slept. I felt so weak I felt if I just gave up, I would die.

Over the next 10 yrs I developed other Lyme symptoms which I did not know were Lyme related, ie: migraines, stiff neck, shortterm memory problems and finally hot flashes and cognitive problems. Finally the joint pain returned, much more severe, and Lyme was diagnosed again.

This time I was referred to a doctor who has had much success (I am told) treating Lyme homeopathically. I am doing really well with this protocol, but the biggest difference has been my energy level. I have not had the fatigue this time, although when I overuse my body and the jointpain flares, I rest. I really think rest is as important as anything else.

Holistic care looks at the entire picture, not just your symptoms and the doctor is giving me homeopathic supplements that are boosting my energy. Also, homeopathy works by stimulating my immune system and this probably is helpful to my energy level as well.

Detox, detox and some more detox. You've got to get rid of the toxins, poisons, bacteria, virus, parasite that is draining you. Which of these is in your body can only be determined with a muscle testing doc. IMO.

Adrenal support helps. B-12 made a world of difference for me when I started taking the right amount. Chronic illnesses whip out the adrenals because the body is just so taxed from trying to fight all the damage in the body.

Abx can be hard on the body also. One man's medicine is another man's poison.

Take care, Pam

Treating coinfections, if your LLMD deems you have them.

Using Provigil and NADA were just band aids.

Treating the source of the fatigue, which was Babs with Mepron gave me a HUGE increase in energy.

the fatigue is one of two symptoms i really got rid of and it didn't come back...but it took a full year on very high dose orals, a year pulsing and then a year of detox...it takes a while but it can be done.

Hi...it looks like many others have suggested B-12 sublingual. I started taking this (you let it dissolve under your tonge. I also take a multi-vitamin which has helped. I haven't started my treatment for lyme....I'm still searching for the best, closest doctor. I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis...which I've read that lyme can cause. In other words, my body is treating my thyroid gland as an infection and is killing it so I have to make sure I take my thyroid medicine as well. If you haven't had your thyroid levels checked, it may help. Good luck!

Horney Goat Weed is also a good supplement for fatigue. It is in the men's section but my husband read up on it and found it was good for fatigue. So I tried it and it worked.

I had mega fatigue too in my first months of tetra. Now a year later my energy is near normal.

Here's what helped me: resting, cutting way back on work, avoiding stress and rushing, no exercise, avoiding sunlight (it would totally wipe me out, many days I only went out at night if at all), antiyeast diet, tons of water, podi patches & ebayfoot pads, epsom salt baths.

I followed Dr. Ds. advice to avoid vitamin supplements. I took probiotics, fish oil & milk thistle with his approval.

As my energy slowly returned I added in short walks and increased my work schedule.

I'm doing so much better now. I still need to keep up detoxing with the foot patches, Epsom Salts, water & detox tea. I'm slowly increasing exercise. Now I can do 12 minutes on the ski machine & walking to work & back (25 minutes total). If I have a really busy day I try to get extra rest the next day. I don't push myself like I used to.

Be patient and don't push yourself.

I take Magnesium Malate 2400 mg a day. This was originally suggested for my "fibromyalgia". It has helped a lot with the pain, and definitely gives me energy. When I go without it for a few day, I feel like a truck ran over me!

i have almost as much fatigue as when i started - i think from herxing. some days (like yesterday) went home from work - got in bed at 5:15pm - nibbled some turkey slices, fell asleep. woke up for awhile around 9 because i was hungry. eat some high fiber cereal and went back to sleep again in about an hour.

got up at 8:15 this morning. more than 12 hours in bed. can't say that i feel great today, but i know i have to pay attention to this body that says rest, rest, rest!!

it's awful, because the regular population doesn't understand what this fatigue feels like.

don't drink very much caffeine because sometimes i have trouble falling or staying asleep.

i have to confess to eating a donut yesterday and two small pastries that were calling to me in the common room at work. not good. i'll not give in to that again.

i have to say that not every day is like that, but so many are since i've gone back to flagyl pulsing with doxy and malarone.

hope you get some relief.

Iam a new Lymie, yet symptoms and fatigue over a year. What helps to know that takes a while to notice (I have heard others talk about this) ..is
many people have CYCLIC times, bug hides, bug gets mad you that you are taking meds or whatever this devious creature snits over and BAM! fatigue level to point of listlessness and feeling like you are dying and can't lift a finger...PSYCHOLOGICALLY I say to myself this too will pass, I SLEEP and give in (my Buddist teacher says in sleep healers come and can work with you), I SURRENDER by visually in shower while rubbing sea salt on my body see toxins dying and going down drain and do springtime Qigong..helps energy flow (dvds, books on net)..good luck! My cycle is 4-5 wks. Calendar out your symptoms like journaling it helps! Keep your face towards the sunshine & THE SHADOWS WILL FALL BEHIND YOU! my best to you!kim

So many kind and loving people here. I am still herxing ofcourse, still at work, ofcourse, sill trying to go on, ofcourse....

My LLMD said I would not be feeling this way if the tetracycline was not working... I tell you all this.....

I have never felt this way on Amox....I felt good the first week....Sleep improved greatly....Then the fatigue, arthritis pain, muscle cramps, numbness, tingling, all came back....

Not to such great levels that I could not do what I needed to do in my life, thank Christ for that!!!!!!

I wonder what Abx I will get for the next four months???? He said maybe Biaxin, then after a few months of that, planqunil...Spelling...sorry...

Thanks...I love you all and pray daily for your recovery...

Some LLMDs prescribe stimulants such as Modafinil that are otherwise used for narcolepsy treatment.
This treatment is purely symptomatic and may help you function better during bouts of fatigue.

Hey Bostonlyme 2005
I am glad the tetra is working but I too wish we didn't have to herx or feel worse before we feel better.

When herxing the key is detox,detox,detox,..The die off is creating toxins that stimulate your immune system.

These things help me to detox
Detox foot pads.(I know sounds crazy but they do help me) Just slap them on at night and whip them off on am & shower .It's easy.

Drink tons of clean water. This helps flush out the toxins in your system..I like distilled water with some lemon & baking soda sprinkled in.

Epson salt warm baths. This helps me but be careful not top hot,or too long...You want to get a little sweat going but be careful not to over due.It can sometimes creat a herx or die off.Drink lots of clean water

Detox tea's-Pau'D arco ,dandilion are the top two I like the most:
followed by red clove,red rassberry
,green tea, chammillie, peppermint, all are orgainic and decaffinated.

A quick herxing recipe is take a whole lemon, cut out any blemmish's,One tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and 8 oz of clean water.Blenderize and drink.

Take care and hang in there.

What's worked for me has been NADH, Foot detox pads, low carb diet and exercise.

Even if I'm drop dead tired, a little bit of exercise has made a difference.

I was real skeptical about the foot pads but they really seem to work.

I've noticed a lot more energy when I'm strict about avoiding carbs.

Good luck
Sue
