I just checked with my pharmacist and he said that IM Bicillin LA is not available anymore!

Anyone else having that problem?

Anyone using any other IM shots?

Nope, not gone for good - just limited for a bit.

They (Monarch Pharma) have retained the entire stock available and are only releasing it on a per case basis. The company that produced the drug (Wyeth I believe) is no longer doing it so Monarch Pharma (King Pharma) is setting up their own production site. Until that happens the supply is very limited and will only be released at a doctor's request. Basically they didn't want pharmacies ording large quantities to stock the shelves, leaving none for other patients who need it.

Have your pharmacy contact the company directly (phone #'s are on the Monarch Pharma website) and they will fax a form that needs to be filled out by your pharmacist, authorized by a doctor and then the company will drop-ship a small quantity (I got 10 tubex) directly to the pharmacy specifically for the patient (you).

They hope to have production up and running in under 6 months.

Thanks for the explanation. The one pharmacist that I talked to couldn't get it at all (maybe he can with your info).

I just talked with the hospital pharmacy and they can get it.

I'll print out your info though, and keep it should I need it.

Thanks so much.

I need to get back on something. Since my picc got pulled Dec 20th, my symptoms are coming back and it is a real bummer.

Hello,
I have been unable to get it through a national chain pharmacy. I have had great success at a locally owned pharmacy. The little pharmacies compete with the big boys by providing special services.

Take care,
Ms. Myo

I got it last week from CVS. It's gone up $100.00. My insurance co. won't pay and I had to pay $595.00 for 12.

When I spoke with the company (King Pharmaceuticals, which is a subsidiary of Monarch) last spring, they said that the pharmacist should call their distributor. If the distributor does not have any in stock, then the distributor should call King and advise that the prescription is for an emergency. King confirmed to me that Lyme is considered an emergency.

All this is good info. It was a smaller pharmacy that I tried to get the Bicillin LA from. He just couldn't get it. So, I printed out what was written here, and should my LLMD order it for me, I'll see if he can get it.

The hospital CAN get it for me. So, if worse comes to worse, I'll get it through them. At least there is a source in town!

That is outrageous that insurance won't cover it. I am having my agent check into that for me. You would think that because it is medication, it would be covered. And, my insurance should be grateful that it is this, and not the IVs that they had to pay for 6 months (which is much more expensive). I guess I'll find out soon what my insurance will cover with regard to IM injections!

The co. I work for switched to a bargain basement provider called COVENTRY- the worst ever.

My LLMD never had to write a letter of medical necessity for Bicillin before. They denied it within hours of receipt.

Yet they take 6 weeks to approve a simple claim.

Hopefully you'll have no problems. Bicillin has really helped me.
