For those of you who supplement antibiotic treatment with an herbal protocol:
Which protocol do you think works best?
I just read Buhner' book; is anyone using this?

My LLMD just deals in antibiotics, no supplements. Do you use another alternative doc in addition to your LLMD? Are there any in CA that do both in their practice?

Do you self medicate with herbs if your doctor doesn't use them in his practice?

Is there a separate protocol for children? I did not see alternative dosing for kids in Buhner's book.

I received no responses from my request for LLMD that also use herbs in CA Bay Area., in hte finding a doctor section. If anyone can tell me here, that would be great!

Thanks,
Lisa

Read Dr. K's updated protocol which talks about the herbal options as well. It is an excellent read and makes a lot of sense:

Yes, I've read and printed out the article. I've been around alternative care for myself and kids over the years, but the KMT thing is new to me and scary! (Since I'm ignorant on the subject)
I'll keep reading.
Thanks,
Lisa

My doc knew alot about herbal treatments, but I started with my research and then ran what I found by him.
Some herbal thing I tested in my battle with lyme, babesia, and ehrlichia:
(starting with most effective)

artimesia anua, a chinese herb, and its extract, artimisinin. This was mainly for babesia. Babesia is classified as a "plasmodium", as is malaria, and this species of artimesia is a very effective treament for malaria-- almost amazingly so, according to some reports. For me, this herb was probably the most important medicine I took, given how events unfolded as I fought lyme etc.

garlic- Also extremely effective, though slightly less remarkable. But it unquestionably was very good combined with artimesia anua. I tried several diferent formulations. Solarlay is very gppd, Greenstar is possibly even better, but the most effective was clearly just to chomp down RAW cloves of garlic. I strongly recommend a "chaser" of ripe avocado, as raw garlic cloves are VERY strong! Chewing is totally necessary, to release the key ingredient, "alicin", which I believe is responsible for both the antimicrobial properties AND the taste.

Grapefruitseed exract hekped considerably at times, especially when combined with olive leaf extract. my doc recommended I take much more than I had started out taking-- 250 mg of each twice a day (GSE is usually 10 mg per drop) It is VERY VRY strong- dilute with a glass of water or it will eat holes in your tongue and possible other membranes!

flax seed oil, and fish oil, for omega factors.
(latter is not totally "herbal", of course...)

That's a start for you- I need to do some sleeping!

Lisa:
YES, I too have been on MOSTLY an herbal regimen, but have added Tetracycline the past month, and now tomorrow will add Doxycycline for the next month along with Artemisinin and Red Root according to Healing Lyme book.

I plan to put a NEW post up outlining my protocol and other info, but so far have been so busy answering others questions, in PM's, I haven't had time and NOW I too must go to bed as my dentist is supposed to call in the morning, (about 5 hours from now).

SO hopefully tomorrow.

ALSO, I am self medicating as it were, using Buhner's Protocol and expanding on it too, quite a bit. Including abx. My GP won't help and can't afford an LLMD without much money and NO insurance of any kind.

Jim.
