Just did a google for this topic for a friend whose son is experiencing his second painful episode with a kidney stone. He is also being treated for Bartonella.

It seems there is some connection with bartonella. I am curious to know if anyone else has had this experience.

Thanks.

I have Bartonella and dozens of kidney stones.
More keep forming as I pass the old ones.
So far, they haven't been attributed to anything wrong with my system.

My LLMD hasn't mentioned a connection...

If you're taking bactrim/septra which is sometimes Rxd for bart and you don't drink enough liquids it can give you kidney stones.

This thread is interesting to me. I developed 3

stones about 6 months prior to my lyme dx. I got

so sick after the Lithotrpsy. Looking back I

must of herxed.

Now I have 3 more stones and they want to do

Lithotrpsy again. I have tested negative for

Bartonella so far? But I know that doesn't mean

anything. Funny that they give you Bart drugs

during the Lithotrpsy (Levaquin).

Lymex5,

Friend's son was also treated with levaquin after previous stone surgery and had a very bad reaction to it. (herx?)

He has the often tell-tale sign of Bart...stretch marks!

I don't think he tested positive for Bart, either, but because of stretch marks was started on treatment for Bart. It was only a year ago that he had surgery for his first stone and now has another.

I have read that they routinely give quinolones to ward off infection after such surgery.

Good luck to you....I still wonder about the connection here.

Maybe we'll hear from others?

Thanks.

Hi, I also had surgery for a kidney stone in 12/04, had a terrible reaction 2 days after it while on Levaquin (numb arms, hard to breathe) went to ER where Dr said it was probably bad reaction to Levaquin and switched me to another ABX.
Then in 1/05 started having classic LD symptoms which got much worse until I was clinically diagnosed in 5/05. After 8 wks of IV Rocephin improved to 80% of normal. Have been on oral Amoxy then Doxy and now Ketek/Amoxy combo. Symptoms have gradually worsened after stopping IV although 30 days Ketek seemed to help.

During my 90 days and 9 different Drs trying to find out what was wrong with me one said "I have never heard of a reaction like that from Levaquin" which made me suspect it was a herx...... and now I am considering going back on Levaquin since I may have Bart although test was neg. (4 neg BB tests also)

PS- had the 24 hr urine test which showed "no reason for your kidney stones" -- except LD maybe?

Thanks for your reply, Hope!

Good luck with the levaquin...have you checked here to see if you recall having a bartonella rash?
