Anyone know of anyone so young with a bladder infection?

He has had it for about a month. was peeing every five minutes--but after taking 10 days of abx (finished on Monday) he is down to 15-20 minutes between each potty break.

On the last day of his abx (bioxin, Biactin--can't remember the name), he broke out in a pink/red rash all over his body. His ears and checks were particularly rashy.

Husband took him to doc who said he was having allergic reaction to abx. No white blood cells in urine.

I went to pick him up that afternoon and he was running a temp of a 102 (it is usually around 96) and was hard to rouse.

I drove him to the children's hospital were I was immediately sent back with him. Docs did x-ray, flu check, and took blood--but found nothing. Doc said he was a "cunundrom" and said it was spookie about the bladder infection (saw no white blood cells and encouraged me to keep the appointment with the specialist on the 8th.

Went back to doctor today and checked his urine again--it is still clean--and again we were encouraged to keep appointment with ped urologist.

Anyone have any idea why he would get a bladder infection AFTER being treated for Lyme?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Linda

Sorry you are having this problem with your little one.
Wish I could give you an easy answer. It's hard enough when we are ill,but to watch these little ones with no answers is even harder.

I'm sure you know about bubble baths being a problem.
Take care. Blessings to you and yours. Joyce

Are the Dr sure it is a bladder infection? Did they send a culture to the lab? Was bacteria able to be grown. If they just did the litmus strip test they are often inaccurate. Mine showed high nitrates...but the lab said No nitrates.

Reason I ask is i just went thru the dr saying it was a bladder infection when it was not.

I was given bactrim then levaquin all made my yeast infection way worse.

It maybe yeast infection possible.....do you see any reddness at all. Does he cry when he pees? Yeast can agrivate the urethra and make you pee more.

Of course im not a dr, this is just based on my experience.

What specialist are you seeing?

Also could be the lyme depending on how long he was treated for the lyme.

Bladder, urinary tract, is a common place for Lyme and other bacteria to collect (per my doctor). ( So is prostate, FOR OTHERS).

You might also want to try D-Mannose from health food store. Also tastes good.
I think I posted a long time ago about it here:

Yep. Is he "finished" with his Lyme treatment?? Perhaps he wasn't truly "finished" and the Lyme chose to come back in the bladder.

I feel very sorry for his being in so much pain. It's a miserable thing.

Hi Linda:

My son is going thru the same thing...It started prior to lyme dx...I had him to his primary so many times it was ridiculous....

Nothing ever came up....He was screaming just on completion of urinating...He also was going ALL the time and ALOT....Finally got the dx of lyme and then started to treat....this continued FOREVER with the urine....

I tried everything that was suggested to me.....One thing that was suggested that did help was Chlorella (albeit the alternative doc's I was using did not tell me how particular to be about choosing one) He stopped the yelling within a few days, but he still has problems....He makes these faces upon completion of urinating and pushes down on the fatty part above his penis...

He STILL goes way to often....Had everything checked including sugar...Nothing.....His LLMD said that men do not get yeast in that area. I DO NOT agree with this....Now he is not a young guy..

He is 21 and autistic and cannot communicate just what he is feeling...I have to go by behaviors...

I am considering taking him to a urologist also, even tho it only seems to bother him for a brief period....

If you do happen to find out anything, please post. Well long story short...I believe it is definetely related to the lyme!!! EB

This may sound kind of lame, but have you tried using natural Cranberry juice? It works awesome for bladder infections, and inhibits that bacteria from replicating in the bladder by producing hippuric acid. get the real stuff, not the sugary junk. Well, 4 years old, you may need to add a little sugar to it?

Cipro works for me (adult) but not sure about kids. Good luck though!

You all are the best! I knew you would have great ideas!

I will go get the cranberry juice today! And the D-Mannose and chlorella.

Healing in Santa Cruz:
He likes the tub better than the shower--we've used Johnson and Johnson "Nighttime soothing Lavendar and something..." We may need to re-think that. I suspect 4 and 8 year old put more in when I leave the room.

can't give up yet:
I'm not sure how my doc cultured it--Dr. Jones was suppose to call yesterday at 2:00--so hopefully that will shed some light. I will ask.

He doesn't cry when he pees--but he told me before this started his penis hurt and I was putting anti-yeast stuff on it. I didn't make that connection.

He has been treated for Lyme for a year and a half. He shows no bands anymore and he is the healthiest of all of us--he doesn't seem to herx--but we are still pulsing him with three days of abx once a month. We are planning on increasing that to twice a month...

GiGi
Thank you so much for those posts--I will go read them now, and get the suppliment--thank God it tast good--that is doable. I have tried mixing artimisian or garlic with corn syrup--and he still wont take it!

Lymetoo:
we aren't sure were he is on his Lyme treatment--but we are continueing to treat him...

ebrischoux:
I'm starting to wonder if it is yeast related too.

You are still treating your son's Lyme, right? I ask because I talked to a lady here who started treating her autistic son (he was three) with abx and saw an incredible improvement in his symptoms.

We see the ped urologist on the 8th and I will let you know what he says.

God bless you all,
Linda

Please monitor whether or not the cranberry juice makes his symptoms worse. I have Interstitial Cystitis and that is one of the things I avoid like the plague!!!!

Anything acidic could make his symptoms worse....just watch him so he doesn't end up in more pain. If the cranberry bothers him, then check the rest of his diet.

No oranges, orange juice, lemon, tomatoes, etc.

[So, he's still taking abx for the Lyme????]

Yes Linda we are still treating...Just at the beginning of this altho it seems like it has been forever....

I hear that alot with autism/lyme and I pray that he gets better....The doc's say he has had it a long time judging from the history I gave them...and he has ALOT of bands on both the IgG and IgM AND he is HLA DR4...He has so much going against him....

I dont believe that abx's are the only thing that will help him so I am reading reading reading in an attempt to get a protocol of Naturals started with him...Right now he is on Mepron/Zith, Cumanda, Burbur, Omega 3's, Zinc, Magnesium. I am slowly going to add digestive enzymes, C, Selenium and whatever else I can think of...

He is so sensitive to supplements so I have to go slowly...Right now he is doing much better in way of overall mood..He is much happier....He did a spiral downhill when we first started to treat in June 05...It was horrible...

Please let me know how the urologist visit goes..I would be very interested....Eileen

Linda:

Did you get to the urologist with your son on the 8th...

Curious as to what they thought was going on...

Hi all,

Yes we saw the peds urologist and he found no bacteria.

He did an ultra-sound and found the little fellow was constipated --even though we had just been in the bathe room with haveing a bm--it took 30 minutes! I thought he was just enjoying playing "I see something you don't see...," so I encouraged him to go back to the examing room--doc had been in several times looking for us!

But with the ultrasound he could see that the bm may be putting pressure on the bladder. Also said after you have a bladder infection your brain keeps sending signals that you need to pee--so you need to reset your body (???). I hope that I expalied that right.

Doc said for us to have him sit on the potty for 3 minutes every two hours.

If he is not better in three weeks we take him back.

thank you all for all your help! that was a horrible experience! Just having ya'll here ment so much to me.

God bless you,
Linda
