Does anyone know what will show on a MRI brain scan if Lyme has gotten into the central nervous system? I should be having the MRI done in a couple of weeks and then I'll be seeing a neurologist. I have pretty bad memory loss, constant muscle twitching/spasms all over, neck/rib/upper back pain as well as pain in joints, tingling & numbness in arm, hand and just recently feet and toes. I've never had a MRI done of the brain before and I can't help being nervous that they might find something wrong. I'm 37 years old. Any similar experiences or test result info would be appreciated!
Thanks

My guess will be a clear scan. Too early for spots to be showing up. Do you know if you have Lyme?

Tested positive Lyme Titer but negative western blot. Still trying to figure everything out. When does one have "spots" show up?

Sorry you are going thru this...I am 49 and after many tests I demanded an MRI of brain... You need to know that your Dr. has to write on order r/o lyme lesions..advanced lymes..you need to make sure xray tech knows that because they will only use stronger magnet and thin slices that can diagnose this properly. I learned the hard way 2 yrs. ago Dr. was looking for lymes vs tumor...they ruled out tumor and said brain normal..2 wks. ago said,"compared to mri from 2 years ago the white matter and lesions were not substantial in changes" Could have started IVtx 2 yrs. ago but they never looked for it because he didn't write it so 2 yrs. of brain damage... Be true to self..do it right the first time..good luck! p.s.rare to have advanced disease to brain..don't worry till you have to !enjoy life stay positive! xokim VIRGINIA!

Also make sure they put demylating disease due to lyme if there are any lesions...make sure to tell tech about lyme dx so you don't end up with an MS dx.
If the radiologist isn't lyme literate they automatically put MS lesions or lesions consistant with MS. YOU DON'T WANT THAT ON ANY RECORDS.
Hoping your MRI is okay.

NurseKim...Thanks for the information. I would never have known what to ask for. I'll let my doctor know about "lyme lesions". If something is there, I definately want them to find it the first time. I hope all goes well with your treatment. I appreciate your sharing of knowledge.
dmc...thank you too for the info. I'll definately let the tech know about the lyme diagnosis, I'll also tell the tech to let the radiologist know as well. I appreciate your response and advise.
copperhalo...Thanks for the "good luck" wishes. I'll look forward to hearing your results when you get them back. I'll let everyone know my results once I get them back, probally in three or four weeks from now. Your right...it is kindof scary...I'm seeing lots of people from Virginia too...I have a strange feeling that a whole lot more from our state have it but just have not been diagnosed properly yet.

I have all the symptoms you have including the rib and upper back pain, twitching, numbness, tingling etc. I had MRI's of the brain in June and in December. They were both completely negative as well as the cervical spine, thoracic and lumbar.
I'm not sure if I have lyme. My appt. is later this month with a llmd.
Make sure the MRI is with contrast or it is worthless.

Thanks for the info. What symptoms do you have with white matter? I'm going to look this up and read more about it. Is this directly related to lyme?
