Hi ya'll, well after that fiasco with the doxy, i called the dr's office.
he said why in the world didn't you take benadryl and i said i can't--i'm allergic to it!!!
the doxy made my chest real tight and closed up my throat -- luckily no visit to er but i still feel like crap.
he said, well, we're fast running out of antibotics to give you, i' don't know what to do, we'll talk on wednesday.
so I'm allergic to all the tetracycline family, flagyl, and can't take biaxin cause it tears up my gastro system. i have chronic ibs and gastritis and colon polyps and he's afraid to give me biaxin again.
so where does that leave me for treatment? i'm late stage and can't take every single antibiotic he's given me.
got any ideas? what about some kind of herbal protocol??

It's kind of hard to tell what your history with abx is from this post. But the tetracycline family is not necessary for Lyme recovery, and tinidazole is a good alternative to flagyl, and there are other, stronger macrolides than biaxin. Some of them, like zithromax, can be taken by IV. It's very important to read Dr. B's 2005 treatment guidelines.
But just from reading your post, it seems like you may have something else going on that is interfering with your ability to take abx. The New York Times (www.nytimes.com) just ran an article on reputable, licensed naturopaths who have helped people, so you can do a search on their website. Also, definitely do some research on celiac disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and all the exotic co-infections.

There are a few people on this site who are being treated herbally w/some success. I'm not doing it myself, but it sounds promising, and would certainly try it if I ran out of traditional medical options.
I'm planning on taking some of the herbal remedies along with my drug therapy when I get a little further along.
Good luck.

I have a friend who could not take antibiotics either. She got a rife machine and it worked very well for her. I am using it also (after antibiotics failed me)and it is helping me also. Lymelady

Have you consulted an allergist along the way? If I were you I would consider it.

geniveve, sometimes one man's medicine is another man's poison. But that being said I wonder if your thinking your reaction to these abx is truly an allergic reaction. IMO it could be an extreme herx reaction you are having to these abx.
IBS, colon problems, gastritis etc is very common with lyme and abx can make these sx even more severe.
Don't worry if you truly find abx is not the route for you, there are many options that are less taxing on the body than abx.
I was an abx failure. I did them for 3 yrs, so I know some people can't get well or can get worse with abx treatment. I turned to rife and other alternative methods. I've never regretted it.
There are alternatives.
Take care, Pam

Try a cephalosporin, bicillin or vancomycin.
