HiAll
It has been quite a while since I posted and If feel at this time I need some good advise especially when it concerns antibiotics.
Firstly I was infected with lyme in 1994 and was treated with 2 weeks IV Rocephin. I caught it quite eary since I got the bullseye rash and then every day I was getting new symptoms such as aches, Bells Palsy and just fatigued.
Did not have any symptoms until 2000 when I tested positive again. What made me go to the dr. was my achey feelings and fatigue.
This time I was treated with 4 weeks of IV. I was feeling really great but once the IV came out I went down hill. I have been struggling to feel well all this time. I have founda wonderfull dr. and have been on some orals but I have not seen him in about a year and a half. In december I paid him a visit and he ran some tests with IGENEX. I was Positive for IGG, Negative IGM althought there are bands that are appearing but I guess not all. ANyway he wants to run the CD57 test too.
I really need to get on something. Do you think with all my ill feelings (malaise, tinnitus, wooziness, achiness, floaters, palps) I should be on abx? Is having all these symptoms and a positive IGG enough?. By the way I have also checked myself out by having Brain MRI for the tinnitus, als and MRI for the arteries and veins of the neck and head and all was fine. I have had ekg, stress tests, echo, and all was fine there too.
Please advise what is the best way to go with this and which abx is the best for chronic lyme.
thanks..

Oh my word YES!!!! to the antibiotics!

So you have a REAL LLMD now???

Read this. It was written by Dr C of MO, one of the best LLMD's in the country.

If you'd like to, post your resuts here [the bands] and we'll help explain it to you.

Western Blot explanation:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/022767.html

Get treated ASAP!

PS....Were you tested for babesia? Sounds like you could have it too.

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:
Fatigue*
Arthralgias*
Myalgia*
Drenching sweats*
Headaches*
Emotional lability*
Depression*
Dark urine*
Splenomegaly*
Dizziness*
Nausea and vomiting*
Cough*
Dyspnea*
Fever*
Chills*
Hepatosplenomegaly*
Jaundice*
Malaise*
Shortness of breath*
Bleeding tendencies,
bruising*
Thrombocytopenia*
Hemoglobinuria*
Hyperesthesia*
Pulmonary edema*
Encephalopathy*
Low to normal range leukocyte counts*
Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase, bilirubin,
transaminase*
Anorexia*

Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease, then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection.

An acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially. There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO species are currently checked by commercial labs.

So, in other words, get TREATED for it no matter what the test might say.

thanks for the quick response
I do not have my results at hand but I will get them ( I have them at work) and post so you can see. Even the IGM had some positive bands but I guess you have to have a combination to be considered positive.
My dr is an Pediatrician that specializes in LYME disease. He gets people from far and wide, but he is a bit far for me to get to that is why I cannot have weekly appts. I have to take a half day from work and since I work in lower Manhattan I take the ferry over and then a bus. It takes me about 1 and half. I will see him tomorrow and will insist on something.
I think he also tested my for Mycoplasm pnuemonia and that was positive too.
I am really scared quite honestly.
I just want to feel like a human being again. Everything is a hassle for me - I do not feel like doing a thing and that is not a good way to be.
WHich abx is good for late lyme??

NO, to the first question. [read the link above]

Here's an excerpt:
"In my clinical experience, if a patient has symptoms suspicious for borreliosis, and has one or more of the following bands, there is a very high probability the patient has borreliosis.

These bands are 18, 22, 23-25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 37, 39, 41, 83, and 93. This is true regardless of whether it is IgG or IgM.. But again, there is no universal agreement on the significance of these bands."

Don't worry, you'll get better if you can get to a good dr. Why would you need to go EVERY WEEK? His requirement??
Any that work for acute Lyme work for chronic, though not many drs use doxycycline for more than a few months.

I would go with Biaxin, Zithromax, Ketek, or Minocycline. [not in that order, necessarily]
