Today will be day five on 500mg of Flagyl. I need to up the dose to 750 today. BUT I dont even think I am herxing. I feel a bit odd after I take it. Ears ring, tired, slight chest pressure. Right foot burning.
But nothing like my prior herx on doxy...couldnt handle 200mg........and cedax 400mg...set me into some major bladder problems..peeing brown pieces of skin etc....hesitation while urinating...head pressure...feeling i was going to pass out while peeing from the odd strain put on me.
I just find it a bit odd that most Flagyl posts say they herx really bad. I guess im hoping this reaction is an indicator of possibly coinfection I could have.
I was on Diflucan for a month, so i wonder if that helped any.

I've been on Flagyl for 3 weeks now, on IV Rocephin for 4. I gradually upped my dose (as prescribed) every 3 days to 1500mg. My LLMd's PA told me I would probably herx between weeks 2 and 3.
Starting week 2 I thought I had the flu. Every bone, muscle and joint in my body hurt, I had (and still have) diarrhea, temp of 102, nausea, and thought I was going to die, like the WORST flu I ever had.
Called the LLMD 2 days later, and they had me come in and drew blood from picc; thought I might have C. diff. They added Levaquin.
Turns out they think I was herxing. From what I read, everyone seems to react differently. Prior to this I was on doxy and tetra, and never had a herx. Maybe I'm just lucky? Or maybe the fun hasn't yet begun....
I wish you well, Jill

I just finished week 2 of Flagyl and now you guys have me sacred LOL> SO far no herx. I have been pain free for about 4-5 weeks and hope it continues. I have been taking Biaxin for that long and thought WHew finally NO pain! I hope it continues this way. Some people herx some people do not.

i've herxed more on flagyl and doxy than on anything else. it's worth it, imo, because at least SOME of my brain is coming back SOME of the time.
the tiredness might be worse. that's possibly a herx or from the flagyl.
uti problems but not really severe.
aching not too severe.
what concerns me is the post from yesterday about not using milk thistle when taking flagyl because it reduces the effectiveness of flagyl.
don't know what to do about that

Sounds like some low level herxing is going on. I don't know what your weight is but I took 1000 mg a day along with a combo of two other antibiotics my first 9 months of treatment and I herxed like a maniac up until the last four months.
Some believe that by taking other abx with flagyl the flagyl busts open the cysts and then the other abx's like doxy and/or zithro kill the resulting L forms of the lyme...
Don't know if anyone has ever really proven this though but if it is would make since that those on other abx's with the flagyl have a higher die off rate and thus a worse herx.

thanks for the replies.
I have my monthly friend too....so i cant really tell what is what right now.....ugh. timing.
I read the lyme times today and it said Diflucan and flagyl are both in the same drug family...this has me puzzled so i will research later.
I only weigh 96 down from my pre lyme weight in august of 101....
as this wasnt prescribed for lyme....im supposed to take 1000mg/day....i took 250mg this morning and plan on taking 500mg tonight...see how i handle that.
I guess after my flagyl is done i will know more.

Cant, I believe we have the same LLMD.
I started Flagyl this a.m. I am off everything else. Working up to 750mg a day, starting with 250mg.
I have been herxing on everything and yesterday bought a wheelchair because walking is so difficult. I cannot count on being able to pick up my left leg with every step.
I hope you don't herx! And I hope I don't either!!

Hello Monica,
Yes we have the same LLMD. My gyn actually put me on the flagyl though. I only took 250mg yesterday...because i fell asleep before taking the 2nd dose. Will start back on it today at 750mg. Flagyl makes you very tired.
I hope you dont herx either. Keep me posted.
Im still stunned im not herxing. Although all of my prior herxes have involved my bladder and that is a constant problem for me.
I have an appt with our llmd at the end of the month, so hopefully he will be able to shed some light on this for me.
Good luck, i hope the flagyl helps you!
