It took me more than 2 years to find out but now I'm sure:

I'm nearly 49 years old. Before treatment my periods were a mess but they were existent. In October 2003 I started abx treatment and soon after my female hormones disappeared completely. My gyn examined me and diagnosed Menopause.

However, once in a while, I felt my hormones coming back for a short while (even with a period in between) but I couldn't figure out a pattern. Only yesterday I found out the system behind:

Everytime I had a break of 2-3 weeks from abx my hormones would come back. Some weeks after going back on abx they disappeared again completely.

Why is that? Is it still neurotoxins of dead keets messing up my hormonal system - after more than two years of treatment? Shouldn't it be better by now?

Or is it a direct effect of abx and I would be better of without?

Did anybody else experience this? I really don't know what to think. Hope anyone can make some sense out of it.

Gabrielle

Of course it depends on which antibiotics you are on, but it is well known that certain antibiotics impair the efficacy of birth control pills. This suggests that antibiotics affect hormones -- which of course, in turn, can affect your cycle.

Combined with your age and what typically is going on with the female cycle at that point, it isn't terribly surprising. If you do a search here, you will see all sorts of anecdotal evidence suggesting that antibiotics (in addition to the disease processes themselves) can affect female hormone cycles.

Since I started antibiotics, my cycles have become normal again. Recently, having had about 3 months off, my cycles are again extended.

Duramater,

I have been on all kinds of oral abx as my doc is changing every 1 or 2 months (Doxy, Zithro, Ketek, Bactrim, Biaxin, Augmentin, Mino, Cipro, Clindy, Telithromycin, Rifampin and combinations out of those with or without Hydroxychloroquine. They all seem to have the same effect.

DLL,

which abx normalized your cycle?

Maybe it is really only my old age [confused]

Periods disappeared completely upon being infected approx. four years ago (I'm 48). Seemed a bit young. I've only been diagnosed in the last year, so chased around to many ducks trying to figger out sudden onset of hypothyroidism, grouchy everyone-flee-to-the-corner-ism, blinding, non-stop headaches.

Periods never did return.

Cool!!!
