Does anyone take this drug? A new doctor my son saw recommended this for sleep instead of the lunesta he takes. I just wondered if anyone else uses this. It also will increase weight and my son is rail thin so the doctor thought this could help with that issue.
We will get our llmd's opinion at his appointment this week.
Did a search here on the drug and nothing came up.

I was prescribed this drug by a doc hoping it would help my sleep problem. Had to go off it because it made my liver enzymes go thru the roof. It also didn't do much for the sleep problems, so I was not all that unhappy to lose it. The thing is that these drugs seem to affect people so differently that someone else might not experience this side effect.

I've been using it on and off to help with sleep. I only take a quarter of a 30mg Sol Tab. They are very brittle, so they break easily.
I don't take it daily, so don't know if that would make a difference in how it works for me. I haven't had the liver problems, or trouble waking up.
Or gaining weight, for that matter.
I have heard people taking higher doses having trouble with grogginess. this effect is supposed to wear off. Haven't experienced it, so I can't say.
It does give me good quality sleep, without the usual repeated waking that I experience. My doc says she has good luck with this one at low doses.

Thank you all.. Everyone does react individually to each drug; that is what makes it difficult to know......until you try. He is reluctant to take anything he doesn't have to and I should have asked more questions of the doctor. We liked this doctor & he will work with our llmds.

Yes, we all react differently but this stuff was a waste of a copay and did nothing.
Ambien CR and Lunesta gave me more sleep.

I took mirtazapine (remeron/zispin) for about a month last June when I was terribly depressed and malaised. Effects were stupendous for about a month, I was driving around singing in the car, getting into conversations with random people, and amiably bargaining for a lower hotel rate etc, which is a sort of thing I've never once done in my life, I've always hated to impose. These effects began within 24 hours - alot of psychiatrists will say thats impossible, but it most certainly is not, tho it is quite uncommon.
At first there wasnt much effect on my sleep, except in the first couple days. In my case I was using it as an AD, not for sleep. My sleep had been completely destroyed earlier in my illness but was already fine at the time, no sleep meds of any kind needed.
After a month of mirtazapine I was just sleeping more and more and got very lethargic and down. Would roll over and go back to sleep 5 or 6 times every morning. Couldnt do alot other than lie around. Something in the mid-term effects of the drug didnt jive with my addled little brain at all. So, I stopped mirtaz, and the next morning woke up with a tremendous rebound mania. I woke in the morning, immediately stood bolt upright, and started cleaning my apartment within 30 seconds. Felt SOOOOoooOOOOO GREAT. Spent the entire day blasting my discman at max volume and racing my bicycle around town knocking off every chore I could think of, each of which seemed like the most gloriously meaningful activity a human being could possibly engage in.
I was also somewhat up the next day, but then faded back to my CFS misery. And I tried quite a few other ADs over the summer, with no benefit whatsoever, and probably alot of side effects (impossible to know really). I do know some people whove had success with them but I certainly did not. But in September, after 10 months of antimicrobials, improvement finally came thru in a big way, and my major depression and malaise were basically history. Ever since, I've been roughly as happy as I was before getting sick. Also worked up to running up to 3 miles, and complete resolution of cognitive dysfunction. 2 g a day of tinidazole for several months, and some good luck, was what really pushed me thru to improvement. I used a highish dose of doxy with the tini. I still have OCD, lymphadenopathy, creaky shoulders, light raynauds and occasional light muscle pain, etc etc etc, so I will keep on with abx for at least a few years to come; I do doubt I will ever be 100% normal but 95% is pretty nice. My case was pretty severe prior to treatment.

What antimicrobials did you take? His primary symptom is the fatigue and you suggest after 10 months that your fatigue is better.
Was your fatigue the lyme or a coinfection? As I write this I figure I will send this also in a PM.... to be sure you see it.
