I finally quit smoking as of Jan. 1st. but I have noticed that my symptoms have gotten worse the last 3 weeks. My balance is worse and I'm having small dizzy spells and more pain in my joints. Does anyone have any ideas? Please I've been on meds for about 4 years but never felt quite this bad. [confused]

Hey Daisylynn
Congraduations on quitting. [Smile] Those B$%##@ds spiroketes love a low oxygen environment that smoking causes.

Your body is getting more oxygen and this would make you dizzy.

Also the stress or withdraw of quitting could be cause a flare up of symptoms.

Some people have tryed welbutrin or zyban just to get over the beginning humps.

Sulfonil- is a non nicotine compound-see thorn.com has helped some people with withdraw.

Loblia has helped people with with draw. This is a strong herb so needs some learning of it.

Here is a webb site I found on a pre-vious post that helped someone here:

one of a zillion likely explanations:
smoking kills macrophages, a type of immune syst. cell. after quiting, more are made. existign macros, and other cells function better, too. macros communicate with other immune syst. cells to thereby cause inflammation, healing, blah, blah blah.

increased oxygenation promotes healing.

symptoms and signs are manifestations of a better-functioning immune system and body.

sulfonil is a sulfur-based,non-nicotine product people have used to quit smoking.

Congratulations on quitting!

Seems like any big change sets the lyme off,
but I am sure that your quitting smoking will help your recovery and health big-time!

Way to go,

Char

Vizualize this:

Take the dizziness pain and unsteadiness in one hand, and "show" it the other hand containing the POWER you used to quit smoking.

Do it every day, and the power you used to quit smoking will triumph again, and again..........There is no greater power.

that was poetry in motion QUAI!

ex smoker here. smoked thru IV and oral treatment of Lyme in 2001.

I agree with everyone here...could be a million reasons why you are having those symptoms now-

DONT use those symptoms as an excuse to smoke again.

You are rocking thru this! You have gotten thru the hardest parts even though some of the exquisitely hard ones are still ahead and will catch you off guard.

That Whyquit website helped me tremendoulsy when I was quitting.

Smoking does not cure lyme or make the symptoms less. It just makes you smell bad.

CONGRATS!

congratulations on quitting smoking.

i've been totally clean for 2 1/2 years, very little for another 2 before that, stopped altogether for 2 before that.

it's one of the toughest things i've done. i'm finally pretty confident that i wouldn't even be tempted to smoke again.

please stay stopped NO MATTER WHAT.

I "enjoyed" smoking too, however since I got asthma about 15 years ago, I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke.

I smoked about 2.5 pack a day, and smoked for 14 years. The first 5 years of quitting were the worst.

BOY, is THAT encouraging, eh? [Big Grin]

BUT, do NOT give up. I didn't, and sure glad I didn't. I had nighmares about it for about 5 years after I quit, and would wake up really angry with myself for starting again. Course I hadn't really started again, just dreamed it.

I found it actually got worse for a few months after the first 3 or 4 weeks off of them. But then overall it got better, little by little.

I had to quit drinking regular coffee, also as it made me much more nervous when I wasn't smoking. Even too much decaf would do that.

But eventually food will taste better, (watch your weight), things will smell better, ( IF they smell good that is), and you will breathe better and feel better overall too.

So, DON'T give up. EVER! You canNOT do it slow, it has to be cold turkey. And IF you start again, it will be tougher to quit again. I know, I did more than once, but finally did it, cold turkey way back in 1970 when we discovered how bad it was for you.

Jim. [Cool]

Smoked for 10 years. Yuck. It's now been 9 years I quit.

It was very difficult.

Good luck. Stay strong.

I quit daily caffine when I learned I had Lyme.
