Sorry, if that comment was intended for me. I was just trying to get some help on winning a contest for my nephew. I realize it was off topic but I do read a lot on this site and consider this a second family. I will not put something other than medical here if I thought it would upset people. It's nice to see something other than sickness and sad things on here every now and then and it brightened up my day that some of you helped and I won a great gift for my sister. Michelle

Conn, I agree with you that there is getting more NON-medical on our "medical" board.
Good time for a reminder with all the newbies we are getting daily and for those having been here awhile.
Noticed a lot of posts are for a specific person; I'd like to suggest using lymenet's PM, personal message on here. It's the icon with 2 people standing. This frees up the board for medical issues applying to majority of us lymies here.
Last summer/fall we had quite a conversation on this subject; that's why at the bottom the options are to move a subject but ONLY the moderators can do that.
EXCEPTION: For person who ORIGINATED the post, they could go to their 1st post on that subject,
copy & paste their post & all others and MOVE it go general support or OFF TOPIC.
Then come back here, and make sure it is gone. If it isn't, EDIT/PENCIL icon. DELETE both the subject line and all text your originated. my 2 cents worth.... Peace. Betty

up as a reminder.
Shelly, it is better to have your non-medical in the OFF topic area. It's so busy here. Thanks for understanding we're here to discuss our medical issues without the extra non-med clutter.

Thanks for posting this reminder. I was just thinking that myself, but afraid to mention it for fear of the flames....
It is hard to sort through and find medical issues, and also if you post a medical issue...it seems that it gets bumped down so quickly you can't get responses.

The last two lines of what docjen said are the most important reason to keep things non-medical in General Support or Off Topic.
If EVERYONE here would make it a habit to check General EVERYDAY, then there wouldn't be a problem with Medical getting over-crowded.
Everyone always says, "I posted it in Medical because no one is over in General." The fix for that is for everyone to read a few posts in General everyday.

great suggestion Tutu; briefly check general daily for these other NON-lyme issues.
Which brings up another thing for newbies...
They do not know there is more than 1 FULL screen of posts, so neglect to go to pages 2-4 which shows ALL of the posts in the last 24-48 hrs. plus all the older ones!
So go to next screen and answer those MEDICAL questions that got bumped off 1st screen.

My thoughts were not directed at anyone in particular.
But it does give less exposure to those who have "medical questions". As they are bumped quickly to the bottom of the pile.
I was just noticing alot of posts were in the wrong place and thought maybe some were unaware of general area. As sadly we have many new members. I truly wish we didn't. But in order for this site to work for them we should try to follow the few guidelines we have.
I hope I have not offended or upset anyone. I realize this can be a very stressful illness for us all. I would hate to think I have added to anyone's stress level.
Take care and peace.

OK, on 3 March 2006, I posted a Topic, in the Medical Questions forum, asking users to post in the appropriate forum and I locked the Topic containing that request to the top of the Topic list.

LOU, good to see you got back a day early.
MISSED YOU.
I am one of those who have NEVER, ever gone to the other places on this list. I have ONLY gone to medical AND of course answer PM's IF THEY write me first.
I guess we get into habits.
I spend WAY too much time on this list as it is. Usually two or three hours a night, sometimes more, IF I go on in the morning too.
I simply do not read any of the posts that do not have a header that interests me, otherwise I would be on here 20 hours a day, reading and answering.

Yes, Lou B., I do think it is definitely better. Bettyg

I was thinking anything related to meds, treatment, symptoms, your body, Bb and co's DIRECTLY should be in medical. It can be informative or a question. ????????? maybe that is not correct?

I was under the same impression as Trails...I thought anything related to medical belonged in medical, whether it was a question, an opinion or a statement.
Just my take on things.

I agree, everything that I post has to do with medical situations or treatments.
Yes that includes mental stuff, cause as we all know the body effects the mind and vice versa?
I only respond to medical posts too.
I find the other posts are instrusive but I forgive the people who post them becaues life is crazy and it is even harder with lyme to keep a strait head.
I know in my life I have many times said things and done things that I have regreted but lets give these people the benefit of the doubt.

I honestly don't see it as a big problem. I read LymeNet a coupla times a day, and really cannot recall ever sitting down and smacking my brow and saying, "Omigosh, there go those LymeNetters again, putting more and more non-medical threads on the front page!!"
I mean, that doesn't even sound real.
In fact, I enjoy the occasional offbeat thread such as the recent "Post Deleted by Author."
This brings to mind an interesting journal article I read once titled something like "Lyme and Loss of the Sense of Humour."
Peace out.

I agree with you, Michelle. I think the complaints come across as silly.
I know many work very hard on keeping this board going, and I thank them for that.
But the "reprimands" about not making posts the proper length, paragraphing in the wrong place etc....and which forum to post on are a bit "ticky tacky".
People come here for information, and to try to learn what can help them or their loved ones.
Being "chewed out" because we posted on the wrong forum is the least of our worries. (at least for me anyway) We post on the threads that catch our interest, and we think we can learn from.
Thanks to all.
