Hi, My ND put me on isocort and iodine for my depleted adrenals/thyroid. Anyone know how long til I might feel alive again? This is day 2 and my low back is killing me but balance seemed a little better last night and this am.

Went thru a weird "almost passing out" feeling about noon today while sitting down! Maybe it's starting to have an effect on straightening out the brain stuff?

Had some energy last night for the first time in 3 yrs. Gotta love that! thanks for any input. kt

I was just reading about isocort, and it said 6 to 18 months to bring back healthy adrenal function. I noticed some improvement on Cortef after 1 month. I still had to increase my dose a little, and then I felt even better.

I don't understand why it took so long for your Dr to get you going on this stuff? No need for you to suffer needlessly like this. I don't see how this Tx would make you feel like you were going to pass out? It should be just the opposite. Maybe you've got some other hormonal changes going on since you have been sooo depleted for sooo long? Could it be your abx? Did you make a change lately?

I don't know if you saw these tips on getting the most out of Isocort, so I'm putting them in here for ya.

TO ENHANCE THIS SUPPLEMENT'S HEALING POTENTIAL: Avoid all stimulants such as coffee or other caffeine containing beverages (if it is difficult for you to discontinue drinking coffee all at once, at least begin to wean yourself slowly, by reducing your intake by one half during the first week, and continue cutting back by one half with each continuing week. This should take care of any withdrawal symptoms). Also, avoid white sugar as well as white flour containing products. If you are not eating much in the way of protein on a daily basis, add more protein rich foods to every meal. Organically raised red meat, liver and eggs are all very helpful in restoring adrenal functionality. Also be sure to take at least 2,000 mg of Vitamin-C every morning and another 1,000 mg with lunch. Never skip breakfast, eat 5 to 6 times daily (small portions) to maintain stable blood sugar levels and get to sleep by ten o clock.

Thanks Micul. Yes, I agree that this "should have" been looked into many many moons ago! I stupidly put all these horrible sx down to lyme and herxes while my adrenals and thyroid were in their death rattles. So I guess another 6 to 18 months just to undo the damage! Thanks again for the info. Really appreciat it, kt

You should definitely notice some improvement within a months time. They were saying 6 to 18 months for complete recovery. As far as the Vit C that they recommend, You should ask your Dr about that. Vit C can help with adrenal recovery, but such a large amount can also hinder abx effectiveness, esp antimalarials like artemisinin and mepron.

I had such severe adrenal exhaustion that I no longer had to shave my legs. (Hair loss from legs is a classic sign). I also had zero stress tolerance.

My ASI test was normal, which came as a shock.
Howver, complete hormone testing showed cortisol was not really my problem, it was very low DHEA.

I started 5 mgs. of DHEA daily (women need much lower doses than men), plus some extra vitamin B5, and I felt better within two months.

I can really tell when I take a break from the DHEA. I can't do it for more than a week or I suffer, even though my numbers look good now. I've been on it most of the time for about 2 yrs. now.

I did cortef for 9 months and had no improvement on it. It wasn't until I started doing a adrenal support supplement from my muscle testing doc that I felt a difference.

It took about 2 months of this supplement to feel a difference. Once you get you adrenals right, it is amazing how much better life is.

Even after getting mine working, I can still wipe my adrenals out by over doing life. Physical, emotional/mental, or spiritual traumas will wipe out the adrenal very easily.

I have done much for adrenal support.

Licorice root tea was THE thing that saved me
when my adrenals were so depleted I near died.

I bought a cheap kind in a health store for a few dollars and did it for about 2 months.

SAVED ME, years ago. I went from not able to get out of bed to running in about 2 weeks.

For some licorice works, for others it
makes them worse.

I am doing licorice again now. Make sure you know what you are doing when you use licorice root, I worked with ND, but it was I that brought up the subject of licorice root, had it vega tested then called a very good herbal company in Vancouver BC called Gaia herbs, and they told me how to use it.

Candida overgrowth can tax adrenals too, make sure this is balanced in you.

Trish

I remember in May 2003 my right hip would "go out" and I would have to draw it up to my chest to kick it back in so I could keep walking..

It got worse and worse (didn't figure it out) until I have been in a w/chair for 2+ yrs...lo and behold I read that a relatively early sx of adrenal fatigue/addisons is the ball of the hip starts degenerating, then low BP, ataxia, vision crushing fatigue..

I damn.. near died before catching on just recently..Thanks for the replies all...kt
