Hi everyone,

I am rotating antibiotics like you all, and was put on Ceftin and flagyl about 8 days ago.

I have an allergy to Penicillin, and my LLMD suggested to not go on the Ceftin after he heard I had an allergy to penicillin, but I insisted that I wanted to try it because it was a different class of antibiotic, one I had not tried before. He said ok try it for one week, maybe ok.

I had read about Ceftin and read that not all will react to it if they have a penicillin allergy.

After 7 days of it, I have a SEVERE vaginal problem, not like any I have had before. It is like it is RAW, same with my Bum, when I had a bowel movement today, it felt like it was raw up there.

I eat NO sugar, and have a very good diet, and am on raw garlic now, and nystatin, but not working, I have stopped the CEFTIN because I have also had some itching on the neck and not sure if it is an allergy.

My vagina feels so swollen, and so raw, there is hardly any disharge up there I felt for it but not much.
AS WELL, the bum is itchy and rawish, and where I pee is itchy and rawish as well.

I should have listened to LLMD, but did not, he also said that it may be ok, and to try it for one week, I did, and not good.

I have never had a vaginal problem like this before, I have had yeast infections from antibitoics, but nothing like this rawness.

anyone else have this from Ceftin?

Trish

Trish,

I have been mostly on Ceftin or Omnicef for almost a year because I cant tolerate most others. I find that if I forget a few doses of Probiotics, I get the worst yeast infections!

I am just recovering from one right now with the symptoms you describe. Very painful and unbearably itchy.

Needed oral meds and Monistat to get rid of it. I am upping my probiotics again. Almost everyone I know who takes Ceftin has this problem.

Not the neck itching though, that could mean an allergy. Hope you get it figured out.

i had this after starting Cedax for a week (in the same family as ceftin)....never had anything this bad either.

I still have it even after usiing Diflucan for a month. I go in 2 weeks for another culture.

I have an llmd appt today and i fear he will want me to go back on it.

go to your gyn and have it checked. They will be able to run cultures to see what it is.

Im not glad that you have this, but i am glad that im not the only one that had this after trying a drug like this.

Odlly enough ive taking cephlasporins before and never had this type of reaction. Im not sure if it is the dose or the fact are bodies are so suseptable to this yeast.

I've been on Ceftin as my primary antibiotic since this past June.

At first, I had a wicked time with digestion, but that straightened out after a few weeks and a bit of diet vigilance.

I haven't noticed anything yeast or vaginal-related. But I should also add two things:

First, I'm on the strongest probiotic I could find (got it at Hulda Clark's store, if I recall)P.
Also, I see an acupuncturist once a week. She's fanatical about monitoring for secondary infections, checking my tongue, etc.

Also, the acupuncturist has me on some Chinese herbs that I suspect have some sort of natural probiotics in them.

The only related thing I've had is that during the only obg I've had since starting treatment, I was super-sensitive and the doc almost couldn't complete the exam.

I have no idea, though, whether that was related to the ceftin, the Lyme, or anything else.

Anyway, I'm so sorry you're going through this and hope you're able to find some relief.

Andie

Hi,
I was taking Ceftin for six months and then pulsed with Flagyl for two months with no problems with yeast. Although yours does sound like it might be thrush. I guess if you wanted to determine whether it was yeast or allergy that you might be able to take an antihistamine - if it is an allergy then that should help it?

I am just a lyme patient who thinks it may possibly be yeast ...

I have gotten infections even while taken acidolphilous.

I had to increase the amount of probotic or switch or the last time I had to start taking it at least 5 hrs away from my abx or it does not work for me.

(my stomach digests slow so I dont know if taking it further away from abx will help you or not)

My advice is to call your dr and let him know what is going on.... If it is yeast you'll need meds to kill it and if its not you'll probaly need meds to fix whatever it is.

Best wishes [Smile]
