Hi- haven't been on in awhile but now LD seems to be back so started IV therapy last Thursday.
I am also dealing with chronic ITP or low platelets which I think is somehow related to the LD.
Has anyone else experienced low platelet counts with their LD?
Thanks
Natalie

The medical term for this is thrombocytopenia and it can be caused by a number of different things, including severe infections. So that could include any of the tickborne infections I would think.

Here is a link to a description of ehrlichia which mentions this condition specifically. What is your ehrlichia status?

And here is a link that describes thrombocytopenia:

Lou-thanks for the reply. I wa tested for erlichiosis in July-tested negative. I am thinking of asking my LD for doxy and taking it to see what happens to my platelet count. (Isn't that the one to take for the erlichiosis?)It's getting difficult dealing with not one, but two chronic things at this point and I am determined to get them both beat! Started IV Rocephin last week and am still on 600 mg Rifampin, but maybe I should try the doxy and see what happens?

I didn't mean to suggest that you had ehrlichia. Looks to me like any of the tickborne diseases could potentially cause this, as they can be severe infections.

Good luck. You are being treated and maybe that in itself will resolve the problem.
