My son's pain has not been managed for 6 years. He is now going to try a duragesic patch for the first time. Where is the best place on the body to put this patch? (I think it is on for 72 hours.)
Is there anyone who can give directions/advice regarding beginning the use of this? Can he use it with the soma and ambien he takes?
I just read all that was back-posted in search.

Va, The patches should have come with directions in the box. (I believe the ones I tried did, but it was a while ago.)
I "think" it was on the side of the torso but am not sure.
Probably best to call a pharmacist and ask.
I looked at the duragesic site http://www.duragesic.com/ but couldn't find the directions there either.
However, they have a $20 coupon available, in case you're interested.
I do remember it was a 72 hour thing and took most of the first day to get up to full speed. Also if you remeove it before it's finished it also takes quite a few hours to wear off.
I hope it works for him.

My husband is on a Fentanyl duragesic patch for his back pain. ( 4 surgeries).. He puts them on his bicep on his arm. He changes his patch out every 48 hours.. Make sure with your son each time he changes his patch to put it slighting in a different spot than the first. Same arm is OK just in a different spot.
Medication from these patches lasts up to 12 hours after the patch has been removed. Also make sure that he doesn't get it warm like in the sun or in the shower, a heating pad etc. When these patches are warmed the medication then tends to be absorbed at a faster rate and could cause an accidental OD..
