A friend just asked about this.

Anyone else have this problem? What does it mean? Might be an allergic reaction, but anything else, like the needle or other materials used?

I've heard of this happening. A member who went by no_lyme_ had it occur. However, it's never happened to me and I don't know what this person's outcome was. Sorry.

Thanks, David.

I will see if I can find what No Lyme said.

I know you can get a rash as a side effect from the med itself, but what would be causing a rash where it goes in?

No_lyme_ told me about this in a private message. I don't know what happened to him as he has not responded to e-mails. He was having a lot of problems and I worry about him.

On several occasions, I got several defined red splotches subsequent to Rocephin IM, but not at the site. Interestingly (at least to me) with subsequent injections I got the red splothes in EXACTLY the same places. This was prior to diagnosis and my doctor said he had never seen anything like it. Troutscout proposed that it was a herx. Who knows?

hello,

I have developed a big red raised itchy rash at the Bicillin LA injection site.

I was also getting a VERY sore lower back for at least a month prior to the rash, which came a full week after the last injection.

I believe that this is serum sickness, allergic reaction to either the Bicillin or the substance that it's mixed with, but will see LLMD on Monday to confirm-

Needless to say, cancelled my shot yesterday!

I have also developed a very itchy red rash of raised small dots in a straight line which I'm very curious about...each about an inch long

Please let me know if you have experienced this-of have any thoughts!

I have never had a lyme related rash in a year and a half of treatment- nor with the bite-

hope to hear some news soon!

Sarah

I never got a rash at the site of injection...

I have and continue to have straight line rashes...most severe occured just prior to a diagnosis of cellulitis.

I believe these linear rashes are the result of the bacillus following the nerves...in much the same way that shingles rashes occur...

just my opinion of yet another lyme symptom...

Thanks Zman!

I wondered if they could be nerve related...
I will do some googling!-

Thanks for getting back so quickly-

in itchiness and in health,

Sarah

I know this is an already answered post, but I had this happen to. I have been on a bicillin for a LONG time now and had no problems with injections, lumps or rashes.

The last time my bf did the shot though, I got A HUGE lump and when the lump went down, I end up with a scattered- brown- patchy rash that wasn't itchy.

I have no clue what it was.

That may or may not help, but your friend is not alone.
