IGG

Can some one tell me what these bands mean, does it mean that I am infected or not? Sorry I just dont know anything about this stuff.

Luke go to some of the web sites on treepatrols' newbie links. Scroll down on that post and find WESTERN BLOT INFO and click on those.

Here is one site that I like to use--it is straight forward.
http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Oasis/6455/western-blot.txt

According to what I know--
31 is specific for Bb--no other spirochete or bacteria can make you pos for this band...it is one of the outer surface proteins for Bb. You are highly positive there!

45--I believe is specific---I cant tell/remember?

41 ---is not specific for lyme--it shows the flagellen--we have lots of spirochetes with flagellen in us already.

58--I also thought this was specific--but now am spacing.

It looks to me like you are positive in some very specific bands. Congrats and sorry at the same time!

here--looks like 45 and 58 are not specific according to this list pulled from Treepatrol:
Bands specific for Borrelia burgdorferi:
14-kDa ?
21-kDa
22-kDa OspC
25-kDa OspC
28-kDa OspD
31-kDa OspA
34-kDa OspB
35-kDa
37-kDa
39-kDa
47-kDa
50-kDa
83-kDa
93-kDa
94-kDa

But you got 31 and that is MAJOR.
Also keep in mind testing is NOT the be all and end all of your diagnosis--Lyme is a clinical diagnosis. Some people do not test postive at all--and they are some of the sickest people around. Their bodies dont make any antibodies to Lyme. Yours is making some. You lucky duck you!

From the front of my IgeneX test it states that 31 and 34 may show positive even if you aren't infected *if* you've had the vaccine for Lyme disease.

From what I've read, you can be sero-negative (negative blood test) and still have lyme disease. I've read info from 2 doctor's who give antibiotics for 1 month, off for 10 days to 2 weeks, then re-test and a percentage of negatives turn positive, I think a little over 20%.

Your Band 31 is more serological proof than what I had. I think you may have it. What lab did the test?

Bands 31 and 39 are highly specific.

Band 41 is shared by other bacteria and is I believe an indicator of a flagella, or tail part. Maybe Bb, but not necessarily.

With your 31 band alone, combined with the symptoms you've been outlining here recently, I can't imagine any LLMD who wouldn't diagnose and treat you for Lyme, presuming other diagnoses of concern had been ruled out to his or her satisfaction.

This test should make you feel ENORMOUSLY better.

I feel it is VERY confirmatory that you don't have the ALS/other stuff you were worried about, just lyme doing its usual tricks mimicking other nervous system diseases.

Now you know what it is. Go see that LLMD tomorrow -- betcha a buck he will agree!

Good luck and keep us posted!

I am not a doctor but I don't think you have to worry about ALS, looks like you have lyme to me.

Good luck at the doc

Luke, several questions among them have you ever had syphilis or leptospirosis or relapsing fever?

In the absence of these, I would consider a strong band to 41 kDa on IgG especially if recombinant antigens were used to be diagnostic of borrelia exposure.

However, millions of americans are carrying latent infections. Just because you test positive for exposure doesn't mean you have active disease.

History and symptoms?

History and Symptoms are so very important!

I was fine...Had plenty of energy for years...

Work physically as well....Always slept well, had plenty of get up and go!

Worked 6-7 weeks at a pet shelter...Exposed to ticks and other insects....

Dogs had lyme disease....People wearing bug spray...(not me, dummy)!

One fine day.....Profound fatigue....Like nothing I have experienced before.....

Thought I would surely die.....

I had many other symptoms....

Now with my +'s on the test from Igenex....

I have Lyme!

These test results support your docotor's clinical diagnosis. Congrats, sort of. I agreee that you can relax a bit and get on with treating the Lyme and possible co-infections. Know in advance that it may be a bumpy ride.

Thanks everyone for your help and support. I guess I am Lyme Positve then seeing i have never had the lyme vacine. He started me on Ceftin 1500Mg then he plans on running me on Biaxin after a month or two on ceftin.

I guess i am on my way to recovery but it will be a rocky road. Thanks for all your support and continued support.
